1:12 AM IST, 8:42 PM Local Time: Some lusty blows from Tim David reduced the margin, but it is Oval Invincibles who held their nerves and win this game by 8 runs. As a result, they make it to the knockout stages of the competition. Brave has to do it all over again in their last game.
Chasing a target of 140 on a slow surface, Southern Brave never really got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Devon Conway fell for 16 while Finn Allen scored 32 off 28 balls taking his time. James Vince the skipper struggled for his 11 off 16 balls. The rest of the batting fell away. Tim David stood up towards the end and scored 44 off 18 balls to reduce the margin. He remained unbeaten till the end. Chris Jordan showed intent and scored 15 off 10 balls but it was a bridge too far as they ended with 131/7 in 100 balls with just one extra given by the fielding side.
All the Oval Invincibles bowlers bowled well and did the job in defending this score. Tom Curran was terrific till that final over he bowled to Tim David and went for runs. He picked up 3 wickets for 43 runs in 20 balls. Adam Zampa was miserly as ever and picked up a couple of wickets for 22 runs in 20 balls. Sam Curran was terrific and gave away just 18 runs in 20 balls and picked up a wicket. Will Jacks picked up a wicket in his only set he bowled and gave away 5 runs. All in all, a good performance from Oval to win this game.
Earlier in the game, Oval Invincibles won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a decent start before losing their way a bit. Jason Roy scored 28 off 20 balls while Will Jacks scored 13 off 9 balls. Muyeye scored 11 off 12 balls. Heinrich Klaasen scored a quickfire 18 off 11 balls. But it was Tom Curran who stood tall with the bat and rescued Oval with his unbeaten 43* off 28 balls. His innings helped Oval recover from a precarious position to get to 139/7 in 100 balls. 12 extras also given by the fielding side.
Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers for Southern Brave finishing with figures of 3/20 in 20 balls. A wicket apiece for Craig Overton, Rehan Ahmed, and Tymal Mills. Rehan gave away only 14 runs in his 20 balls and was miserly as ever. But it was Oval who came out on top in the end.
