And with that, we come to the conclusion of the 4th match of The Hundred Men. Welsh Fire defend the massive total of 173 by just 5 runs. A brave show by Tom KC and Harry Brook in the middle overs and some death exploits by Potts and Carse kept the match alive till the last ball.
Welsh Fire put up the best score of The Hundred till now with 173 on the board. Bairstow set the tone in the powerplay, but the Fire's middle order did very well to keep the impetus of the innings with a series of cameos. Potts and Stokes were the picks of the attack, with Carse, in particular, coming in for rough treatment. Then there were cameos from Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, and Ian Cockbain, which lifted the scoring rate.
Northern Chargers never looked like chasing this mammoth total. Wickets kept tumbling and no one got set and took on the Fire bowlers. The youngster from Afghanistan stole the show dismissing Lynn and David Willey. After the fall of Ben Stokes, the game looked done and dusted until Brook started smashing everyone who came into the attack. Tom KC stood with him and suddenly the game was in balance.
With 54 needed off the last 25, Brook took to Plunkett for 12 in 5 but Qais brought Fires back in the game by knocking over Simpson and Brook in the same over. He ended up with four wickets in the match. The game was not over as Carse and Potts landed massive blows in the death taking the match to the wire. Jake Ball took the final set and gave away just 5 singles when 11 were required and won the match for the Fires.
The Hero of the match is Qais Ahmed.
Qais Ahmed: I enjoyed the game, The pitch was not spinning a lot but the captain and coach told me you are the main man. These are lovely people and I love them all, they turned up in good numbers. Exciting to play this competition and really loving it here.
So that's goodbye from me, Anurag, and my partners Arjun and Arijit from the comm box. Do join us tomorrow for another doubleheader of The Hundred at 7 PM(IST). Good night and take care!!
