1:54 AM IST, 9:24 PM Local Time | Trent Rockets have sealed a brilliant victory in the first match of The Hundred's brand new season! They defeat a valiant Southern Brave by 6 runs to notch up the first home win on the board and kickstart the season with a bang! What a match we have witnessed here!
Southern Brave won the toss and elected to bowl first, and they were in dreamland soon enough! After initial shots by Hales and Malan, the pitch swung in favour of the bowlers. Southern Brave ran through Trent Rockets' top order to reduce them to 54/5 after the first 48 deliveries!
However, Sam Hain had other ideas in mind, as he blazed away to 63 runs off just 39 deliveries to power his team to a total of 133/8 from their 100 balls! Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 3/18 from his 20 deliveries.
Come the chase, the Brave openers struggle with timing but made it through the powerplay without losing any wickets. Lewis Gregory showed his bowling attack the way by breaking the opening partnership and Imad Wasim's excellent 10 delivery spell saw two more fall to put Brave in a worrying position at 51/3 after 48 deliveries.
The Brave never recovered post that and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Their inability to stitch together a partnership, combined with some panic batting led to their eventual downfall. L du Plooy top scored for his team with 28 runs off 19 deliveries, and his knock combined with Chris Jordan's brilliant cameo of 22 runs off 11deliveries kept Brave in the game until the very last set where Sams turned up for the Rockets to seal victory for his team!
Trent Rockets looked down and out at one point but their comeback has been a story to tell today! Excellent comeback from the Rockets to begin the season with a W! Southern Brave meanwhile will go back to the drawing board and hope to turn their fortunes around in the next game.
