Arjun: The game has been like a cat and mouse fight. The prediction meter was like a share market stock. But in the end, Jonny Bairstow’s Fire kept their nerves tight as they win by 18 runs.

Arjun: The chase started with a target of 166 runs. QDK opened the batting for the first time in The Hundred, and was partnered by his skipper Vince. The South African began his Hundred career with a maximum and a boundary, but couldn’t convert that brilliant start into a big one as his night was ended by Payne on 21. Then came out New Zealand’s Devon Conway to accompany his skipper. The duo stitched a healthy partnership for the Southern Brave.

Arjun: Initially, they took some time but once they started, there was no looking back. Both Vince and Conway were rotating the strike well and were hitting the boundaries too. However, the Fire captain pulled off a master trick when he introduced Neesham against his Kiwi mate. The all-rounder failed to take the prized wicket of Devon but he did stop the flow of runs. It was followed by two economical sets before Ball scalped Conway and then Neesham took the opposition captain on 40.

Arjun: Brave lost two key batters in a span of five balls and Fire were about to seal the deal, but a twist came into play. Whiteley and Davies started hitting the ball across the park and things were looking poised. The batters took on the spinners and smoked some lusty blows against both Critchley and Ahmad. Another twist was awaiting as the pacers came back they just pulled the plug off Brave's innings. Payne removed Davies, then Neesham picked another two wickets. In the end, the task was out of hand for the tail-enders as Welsh delivered a convincing win.

Match Hero is Jonny Bairstow: it was a game-changing spell [by Jimmy Neesham] that we needed him to do. That's exactly why he's over here and in our side, is to change the game. Last game he got 30 off 10 balls. In this game, he's got wickets and didn't concede many. We took a couple of risks with spin in the Powerplay and got our rewards slightly later on. There are two ways of looking at the rain. I thought the way our boys bowled with a lack of pace suited the pitch better. It's been amazing playing at Cardiff. It was a great crowd tonight and thanks to everyone for coming out.

Mahela Jayawardene: We are getting used to it. Pretty happy with the skill set. We just need to believe in our preparation process. We didn't have the discipline and patience today. We now need to catch up and have the results. It is the first time everyone is getting used to it. The guys will get used to it. There is skill involved. This is a vehicle to get it across to more people. It has been brilliant so far. Charlotte has been brilliant with the girls.
