So until we wait for the post match festivities, let's go through a quick recap of how the game went on. After going 1-0 down in Dominica, West Indies won the toss in the second Test and elected to bowl first on a flat deck on the opening day.
The latest Indian opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided brilliant start adding 139 for the first wicket. Rohit ended up scoring 80 with Jaiswal hitting his maiden half century, a brisk 57 in 74 balls.
Playing in his 500th international game, Virat Kohli hit a superb 76th international ton with 121 in 206 balls. Ravindra Jadeja (61) and R Ashwin (56) added considerable fifties as well. Jomel Warrican was the pick of the bowlers with 3/89, Kemar Roach bowled a spell of 3/104.
All the Windies batters got good starts but only skipper Kraigg Brathwaite notched up a score of 75, playing 235 deliveries in the cause. Mohammed Siraj registered his best Test figures with his second Test fifer (5/60). Debutant Mukesh Kumar picked up 2 wickets, same as Jadeja with Ashwin getting the prized wicket of the skipper.
In response, the openers started batting in T20 fashion with Rohit Sharma hitting his quickest Test half century, getting there in just 35 balls and finished with 57. Ishan Kishan was promoted at number 4 and scored his maiden Test fifty remaining unbeaten on 52 in 34 balls as India declared on 181/2 setting 365 runs for the hosts to win the centenary Test between the two teams.
A rainless couple of days set up a good game but it played spoilsport thrice on the third day and four times on day 4. India only managed to pick a couple of wickets, both scalped by Ashwin removing Brathwaite (28) for the eighth time in Tests.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul set his foot in and scored 24 in 98 balls with Jermaine Blackwood (20* off 39). West Indies survived 32 overs scoring just 76 runs. A fifth day could have taken the game any ways with India getting an upper hand on the match but steady rain throughout the morning and afternoon session washed the game away with India taking the series 1-0 but losing out on some important WTC points.
West Indies however open their account in the current WTC cycle with 4 points.

Mohammed Siraj (Player of the match): "This is my first man of the match in Tests so its a memory. Also this is my best figures, a five-wicket haul. There isn't much assistance for the fast bowlers in West Indies so my plan was simple and I executed it successfully.
When you take wickets on such a non-helping surface, you get some confidence. This will help me in future matches.
Rohit bhai asked me to believe in myself and keep doing what I am. He asked me to take the responsibility and focus on what's coming to me naturally and enjoy the game."

Kraigg Brathwaite (West Indies Captain): "We showed some fight in this game with the bat. However, there is room for improvement in terms of our bowling discipline. The batters made an impressive comeback, but losing five wickets yesterday was a setback. On the bright side, it's pleasing to see the top-order batting for over 100+ overs.
We were very positive, we had 98 overs on a pitch that was relatively good. It was on. Unfortunately with the weather, we didn't get a chance. Alick Athanaze came in and looked the part from the word go. Kirk as well, he looked good in the first innings.
I have great confidence in the team, and I believe they have the potential to perform well. To further enhance their skills, organizing some training camps during the meantime would be beneficial. We need to bat for long periods against good teams."

Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "Every win is different. Playing in West Indies, playing in India, has its own challenge. But I am very happy with the way things went here. Starting from Dominica and then here also. We gave it a good shot. Unfortunately we couldn't get any play today. But there's nothing you can do about it. Things that are in your control, you can look up and do those things. We went out with a positive intent yesterday wanting to get the result out of this game.
How difficult it is batting last. We always wanted that kind of a score where the teams will look for it. Once we set the target around 360, they sit in their changing room and think that if we have a partnership or two, we have a good chance at it and that's exactly what we wanted. The pitch didn't have much as such, the odd ball was turning from the patch and nothing much.
Siraj, over the years now, I've been watching him closely from 2-3 years. He is taken such a giant step in his personal career, how he has led the attack in the absence of Bumrah and Shami as well. I don't anyone to lead the attack. I want everyone to be leading the attack whenever they have ball in hand. That is the kind of mindset you want to have. You don't want to depend on one or two individuals. You want the entire pace battery to take the responsibility to get the job done for the team and that is exactly the guys have done in the past few years. We have played a really good Test cricket in the recent past and I hope we continue to do that. It's all about these guys having that confidence and move forward which you can see in the performance.
It's a great asset to have. Test matches change quickly and you want guys like Ishan to be in the mix. We wanted quick runs, we promoted him up the order. He wasn't afraid, he was the first one to put the hand up as well and went there and scored us some quick runs. I have seen it over the years in Test matches. You need guys who can stabilize the innings as well when you are under pressure like what Virat did in the first innings where we lost 4 wickets, he batted out, played superbly through the innings. You need the mixture of everything. Exactly what I have seen in our squad, especially batting. We have depth, variety which is quite important. We have left handers as well at the top. At this point in time I feel we are in the right place. Its just about going and getting the job done again and again. That's the challenge of Test cricket. You gotta be at your best every time you step on the field and that is what we will be expected to do as well.

Except that lost game, we consistently played good cricket throughout that phase. For us that is what we are looking at. We have got a lot of young players in the squad now. For us is to improve in all 3 departments. That is what I will be focusing on as the captain and as a team as well. We need to be taking all the catches, so we need to be a good fielding unit. Bowlers: when they are put under pressure, how they respond, what are the right options that you need to take? That is the challenge for the bowlers and when the conditions are little bit challenging, what conditions the batters go in with. What sort of response they have to those kind of challenges. Because you play in different conditions all the time, so for us to be mentally ready to prepare ourselves and be ready for all sort of surfaces, conditions, that is the key and challenge I will be looking forward to."
