WI-W won by 7 runs
2:24 AM IST, 9:54 PM Local Time: West Indies survive a major scare in this year’s competition. They beat Scotland by 7 runs to make it two wins in a row. Stafanie Taylor, the veteran, played a scintillating knock at the back end of the first innings and you have to say that it proved to be the difference between the two sides.

It was a disciplined start from the Scottish bowlers after electing to bowl first. They dismissed West Indies openers Qiana Joseph (13) and Hayley Matthews (15) cheaply, with the latter really struggling in her stay at the crease.

Shemaine Campbelle (36) and Deandra Dottin (14) steadied the ship with a 35-run stand before both fell on successive deliveries. Chinelle Henry (4) and Jahzara Claxton (16) departed in a quick succession but it was Stafanie Taylor who made sure that West Indies finished with a flourish.

Taylor hit four fours and three maximums to remain unbeaten on 47 off just 19 to power her side to 153/6 at the end of 20 overs.
For Scotland, Katherine Fraser (2/34) grabbed two scalps.

Chasing 154, Darcey Carter and Katherine Fraser got the Scottish side off to a flying start, scoring 50 in just 5 overs. However, Fraser (20) and skipper Kathryn Bryce (0) were dismissed by Matthews in the final over of the powerplay.

Sarah Bryce (4) and Megan McColl (1) and Priyanaz Chatterji (8) fell in a quick succession as Scotland slipped from 51/0 to 74/5. Carter started building a partnership along with Ailsa Lister. Both kept their side in the hunt. Carter notched up a fifty before falling on 62-ball 59 in the 19th over.

Lister at the other end got knocked over on 25-ball 33. A flurry of wickets in the final two overs meant that Scotland got bundled out on 146 in 20 overs to fall short by seven runs. Aaliyah Alleyne (3/11) and Hayley Matthews (3/19) bowled beautifully for West Indies and picked up three wickets each which helped them defend the total successfully.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentation.
Player of the Match: Stafanie Taylor
Stafanie Taylor (Player of the Match): "(On coming back into the XI) Being on the sideline, I have never felt good. I get nervous. So, I like to be fit and playing this game.

(Her task today) I was due to bat at No.5 but because of the situation, we bumped some people up to get the tempo going and that never happened. I just had to go. For me, it was to get those boundaries. I was of the view that if we could get one or two boundaries, it will get us in good stead.

(What she would tell the youngsters, go for power or timing) I must credit our coach, Shane Deitz. We worked on technique, accessing different areas. We shared footages and discussed.

(On the nervous finish) I think I probably had a go at Rammers (Karishma Ramharack), she is going to give it to me. It was in the heat of the moment. We have to take it one game at a time. Last time in the Qualifiers, Scotland got the better of us. So, it is good to get one over them here."
Kathryn Bryce (Scotland Women Captain): "[Thoughts on that score] I think at the start of the day, we would have taken chasing 150-odd total. But we let things slip in the end.

[What went wrong in the final phase of the first innings?] I think we have been on it with our lines and lengths. Missed it a few times and we weren't up to it in the field as well.

[On their opening stand] They were absolutely fantastic at the top. Took on the game and set us up nicely. We were poor in a few patches. We were good.

[On West Indies using spin after the powerplay] They took pace off and we found it difficult to rotate the strike. It put us under pressure.

[On Carter and Lister's knocks] She (Carter) battled throughout the day. Ailsa also came in and gave us a chance in the last few overs.

[On the support from the fans] It means so much. I think the pain that the people are feeling at the moment shows that we were in the game. It hurts a lot more now. But it comes from playing good cricket and it shows that we were playing good cricket.

[On facing England next] Really looking forward to it. There was a lot of noise the other night. I think the stands will be filled on Saturday and there will be a lot of noise."
Hayley Matthews (West Indies Captain): "(On the nerves) It is still fast. Obviously, a very close game. A lot of nerves going around. Glad that we got over the line.

(On the batting innings) They bowled really nice areas. Myself and others struggled to go for different options. Staf (Stafanie Taylor) coming in there was able to make a difference playing classical shots. It was really good to see. Slightly different role for her but she is such a versatile player. Has so much experience, was great to see her play like that.

(When they realised that lack of pace was important) It was from the time we batted, knew that spin was tough to get away. Wanted to get spin as soon as possible after those first few overs.

(Injuries and illness to players) (Shemaine) Campbelle, she has been sick from the morning. She was 50-50 for this game. Chinelle (Henry), we obviously have to manage her.

(On Deandra Dottin becoming emotional) She is someone who is passionate. She cares a lot and wants to put her hand up. Was unlucky tonight with a few things. It was really good to see everyone get around her but we have full confidence she will bounce back.

(Upcoming fixture against Sri Lanka) Every match in the World Cup is going to be super important. Coming up against Sri Lanka, a team that just beat New Zealand. Will be an important game for how the group will shape up. We will have to be better than what we were today."
