2:49 AM IST & 7:19 PM Local Time: South Africa Women go 1-0 up in the three-match series after brushing aside the West Indies Women in the T20I series opener by 50 runs in what turned out to be a one-sided affair in the end. Tazmin Brits set it up with the bat and then the bowlers gave nothing away to restrict the Windies to 133/6.
Earlier in the game, South Africa were sent into bat by the West Indies. Riding on an unbeaten half-century from Tazmin Brits, who scored 98 runs off 63 balls, the visitors posted 183/6 from their 20 overs.
Nadine de Klerk was the next best batter, adding 21 off 17. Chloe Tryon chipped in with a cameo, scoring 16 off just 9 balls.
Jahzara Claxton picked up three wickets while Aaliyah Alleyne and Afy Fletcher got one apiece.
In response, the West Indies lost Qiana Joseph in the second over. Hayley Matthews struggled to find her timing and was eventually dismissed for 19 off 16.
Realeanna Grimmond was unlucky as she was run out at the non-striker's end. Shemaine Campbelle made 16 off 12 while Shabika Gajnabi bagged a three-ball duck.
Jannillea Glasgow and Chinelle Henry added 81 runs for the 6th wicket. The highest partnership for the Windies in WT20Is for 6th wicket.

Tazmin Brits (POTM): "You dream of these things to get close to a hundred in a T20 game. I wasn't sure I was on that many runs. I just wanted to get the team over the line, but yeah, staying on 98 is a bit of a hard line to understand.
Definitely, with the wind blowing in a certain direction, it was easy to hit one side of the ground.
I don't think it was an easy wicket. A lot of running needed to be done."

Hayley Matthews (West Indies Women Captain): "Yeah, I think so. We didn't use the wicket, bowled a bit too full. I think they were more disciplined with their lines. When Chinelle Henry was at the crease, they changed their lengths well and didn't give us anything to hit. We need to manage that and execute batter.
Every match we had so far, some of the younger girls have stepped up. Glasgow getting her first fifty is one of the positives to take from the game.
Still a lot to play for, it is a three-match series, two to go. 100 percent in with a chance, we have to play as a group."

Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women Captain): "Very pleasing to start with a win. She (Brits) was phenomenal with the bat. She is in a terrific touch and hopefully she can carry it on in the coming games.
She (Marizanne Kapp) analyses the batters well, it was all Kappy, she wanted that fielder there. It was pretty good catch, it was flying with the wind.
We were pretty good today. Didn't have the best powerplay. I think the rotation against spin was really good but it is nice to see we were being proactive.

It turned out to be a one-sided affair in the end. The surface offered decent conditions for batting, but the West Indies batters simply didn’t apply themselves well. South Africa Women take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, and now it’s up to the hosts to bounce back and stay alive.
