6:45 PM IST, 3:15 PM Local Time: A thumping win for the Men in Green, as they annihilated Zimbabwe by 10 wickets with more than 14 overs to spare, securing the series with one game to go.
Earlier, the decision to bat first backfired for the hosts as they were bundled out for a mere 57 runs in 12.4 overs. Brian Bennett (21) and Tadiwanashe Marumani (16) provided a brisk start to the hosts and added 37 runs for the first wicket. However, following the wicket of Marumani, they fell like nine pins and were folded for just 57 runs - their lowest total in T20Is.
Pakistani bowlers kept hitting the right areas and took wickets for fun. It was a sorry sight on the scorecard for the hosts, with three batters failing to score and Bennett and Marumani being the only ones to reach double digits.
Sufiyan Muqeem (5/3) proved too hot to handle for the hosts, claiming five wickets in just 2.4 overs. Abbas Afridi chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Abrar Ahmed, Haris Rauf, and Salman Agha contributed one wicket to Zimbabwe’s downfall.
Defending 57 runs was never going to be an easy task for the hosts and Pakistani openers put pressure on them from the outset, scoring 11 runs off the opening over. Omair Yousuf (22*) and Saim Ayub (36*) looked in a hurry and smashed 61 runs off just 5.3 overs, helping the Men in Green cross the line with more than 14 overs to spare and win the series.
A mediocre performance from Zimbabwe on home soil, and they will need to restrategize and come back stronger in the final match of the series to avoid a whitewash.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
