Ajinkya Rahane, Riyan Parag Labelled "Worst Batters" In IPL History

Former India legend Kris Srikkanth pulls no punches, labeling Riyan Parag and Ajinkya Rahane as the worst performers of IPL 2026 in a scathing critique.

The IPL has a storied history of elevating players through captaincy, but for Riyan Parag and Ajinkya Rahane, the 2026 season has been a story of crumbling under pressure. While both lead their respective franchises, their personal contributions with the bat have hit an all-time low, sparking a heated debate about their place in the shortest format.

Srikkanth’s Scathing Review

Former Indian opener and legendary commentator Kris Srikkanth didn't hold back on his YouTube channel, dragging both captains into a conversation about the "worst IPL batters." Srikkanth was particularly critical of Parag’s consistency, stating, "Parag is fit only for his stylish walks after doing nothing with bat and ball. There is a competition between him and Rahane as to who's the worst. Parag did well for one season, and that's it."

The Statistical Nightmare

The numbers support the criticism. Riyan Parag, despite his immense talent and eight seasons with the Rajasthan Royals, has struggled significantly in IPL 2026, amassing just 61 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 122. While RR sits comfortably in the top three, the credit has largely gone to openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi rather than their captain.

Similarly, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane has found the post powerplay overs a struggle. While he has managed 152 runs in 7 games, his inability to rotate strike or find boundaries once the field spreads has stalled KKR’s momentum, leaving them languishing at the bottom of the table with only one win.

Captaincy: A Double Edged Sword

Interestingly, while Parag’s batting has failed, his tactical leadership has kept RR competitive. On the other hand, Rahane's batting slump seems to have bled into his decision making, leading to several strategic errors on the field. With experts calling for Rahane to be dropped to save KKR’s season, the veteran finds himself on thin ice, while Parag's role as a leader provides him a temporary shield despite his batting woes.
