The BCCI has taken a stern stance against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi, penalizing the youngster for a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct during a high-octane clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The match, which eventually pushed KKR to a thrilling Super Over victory, was marred by a rare dismissal and a subsequent show of dissent from the talented batter.

The Rare Dismissal: Obstructing the Field

The drama unfolded in the fifth over of the KKR innings. Raghuvanshi, looking to rotate the strike, tapped a delivery from Prince Yadav toward mid-on and took off for a risky single. However, his partner Cameron Green rightfully sent him back. As Raghuvanshi scrambled to regain his crease with a desperate dive, Mohammed Shami’s throw struck him directly on the body.

Following a loud appeal from the LSG camp and an extensive review by TV umpire Rohan Pandit, it was determined that Raghuvanshi had intentionally altered his course to intercept the throw. He was subsequently given out for 'obstructing the field one of the rarest modes of dismissal in the game.

BCCI Cracks the Whip on Dissent

The punishment, however, was not for the dismissal itself, but for Raghuvanshi's reaction to it. Incensed by the umpire’s call, the young batter was seen striking the boundary cushions and throwing his helmet in the dugout a clear violation of the standards expected in professional cricket.

The match referee found him guilty of breaching Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which covers the abuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures. As a result, the BCCI has docked 20% of his match fees and handed him a formal demerit point.

“Angkrish Raghuvanshi admitted to the Level 1 offence. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the BCCI stated in an official release.

Rinku Singh Rescues KKR After Top-Order Collapse

Despite Raghuvanshi's early exit and a horror start that saw the Knight Riders reeling at 27/3, the team showed immense character. A valiant half-century from Rinku Singh propelled KKR to a competitive total of 155.

The chase was equally chaotic for LSG. Despite vital contributions from Rishabh Pant and some late order hitting by Mohammed Shami, the game ended in a tie. KKR eventually held their nerve in the Super Over to secure two crucial points, moving past the controversy and back into the winning column.
