President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday condoled the loss of lives in a stampede at a temple in Bihar and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
At least eight devotees, mostly women, were killed and five injured in the stampede at the Sheetla Mata temple in Nalanda district on Tuesday.
“The news of the death of numerous devotees in a stampede at a temple in Nalanda, Bihar, is extremely heartbreaking. I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families. I pray for the swift recovery of all those who have been injured,” Ms. Murmu said in a post on X in Hindi.
The President, who is on a day-long visit to Bihar, addressed the convocation ceremony of Nalanda University in Rajgir city.-- PTI

Bihar Sharif Assistant Superintendent of Police Noorul Haque said, “At least eight women died in the stampede at Shitala Mata temple on Tuesday morning. Police personnel and officials of the district administration have reached the spot, and the rescue work is on.” -- PTI
