2011 World Cup Winner's Relative Arrested For Physical Assault

Yusuf Pathan, the former Indian all-rounder and 2011 World Cup winner, has found himself in the headlines following a distressing legal situation involving his in-laws. Reports from Mumbai suggest that a minor road dispute escalated into a violent confrontation, leading to multiple arrests.

Road Rage in Byculla

The incident began when a resident, Yusuf Khan, accidentally splashed water from a puddle onto another individual, Shoaib Khan, while driving through Byculla. Despite an immediate apology, an argument broke out. According to police, Shoaib became aggressive, damaging the car’s windshield with a bamboo stick and physically assaulting the driver.

The situation worsened when Yusuf Khan and his family were heading to file a police report. They were allegedly intercepted by a group that included Yusuf Pathan’s father-in-law, Khalid Khan, and his brother-in-law. The group reportedly attacked the victims with baseball bats and bamboo sticks, resulting in serious injuries, including a fractured arm.

Legal Action and Background

Mumbai police have since arrested three individuals, including Pathan’s father-in-law and brother-in-law, based on CCTV footage and witness statements. A case has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering assault and the use of unlawful violence. Yusuf Pathan, who is currently a Member of Parliament for the Trinamool Congress, has yet to issue a public statement regarding the incident.

Pathan married Afreen Khan in 2013; the couple met in Vadodara where Afreen was working as a physiotherapist. While the cricketer transitioned into politics after a successful career that included two World Cup wins for India, this personal legal battle represents a significant and unexpected challenge for the Pathan family.
