One of the many spinners who were given a chance to show their skills at the Test level in the post-Warne age, Jason Krejza was a mysterious off-spinner who bowled the controversial ‘Doosra’ without any question over his action. A former Australian cricketer who announced his retirement in 2014, Krejza last played competitive cricket in early 2013.

In October 2004, he made his first-Class debut for the Blues, making his debut in a tough slot for anyone, least of all a debutant second spinner at the Gabba. Batting at seven he made 11 and zero and bowled just one over. In his debut domestic season, he ended up playing nine Test matches, snaring 12 wickets and scoring two fifties for his side.

Krejza spent his first few seasons with the New South Wales side, constantly playing second fiddle to Stuart MacGill – and, eventually, Nathan Hauritz. He meanwhile, continued to quietly develop as a cricketer, playing his off-seasons in England.

Krejza made his Test debut against India in Nagpur 2008, alongside Bryce McGain, and then alongside Cameron White following the former’s withdrawal. He scalped 12/358 against India which is the second-best figure on debut. Only Bob Massie has ended his debut Test with better figures. Krejza made his ODI debut against England in 2011 and scalped two wickets. After playing just three ODIs, he got a surprise call-up to the Aussie’s side for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup when Nathan Hauritz and Xavier Doherty were ruled out with injuries. He managed five wickets in eight games in the tournament.

After one man of the match, and one Test where conditions were a long way from easy, Krejza got dropped. His last first-Class game came in the summer of 2012/13, he lost his Tasmania contract after that season, and a few months after that announced his retirement.
