A crafty off-spinner, James Tredwell has gone about the business of plying his trade in both domestic and international levels.  An old-fashioned left-arm spinner, Tredwell’s simple and slow arm action allows him to bowl both the slower and the flippers and his flighted deliveries have earned him the highest number of wickets.

Rising through the ranks of Kent Couty Club, the off-spinner made his Kent debut in 2001 and has been an integral part of the side ever since, earning his county cap in 2007. Despite being a part of the limited-overs team for a long time, Tredwell only cemented his place for his First-Class team in 2007. He was then drafted into the England side for a tour of South Africa as a backup bowler to Graeme Swann, but finally made his Test and ODI debut on a tour of Bangladesh in 2010.

After a good show in his debut World Cup match picking up four wickets in a crucial 18-run victory over the Men in Maroon. On the back of a horrific quarter-final loss against Sri Lanka by 10 wickets, he was dropped from the squad. Tredwell had to wait for more than a year to make it back into the England ODI team.

England’s debacle in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 saw drastic changes take place within the ECB. Following the disastrous World Cup campaign, England toured the West Indies, where Tredwell’s prowess with the ball on the dry Caribbean wickets came to the fore. He achieved a bit more in white-ball cricket. The off-spinner featured in both the 2011 and 2015 World Cups in addition to the 2014 World T20 in Bangladesh. He was also a part of the England team that made it to the final of the Champions Trophy at home in 2013.

The veteran spinner represented England in all three formats and announced his retirement from all forms of the game in September 2018.
