Grandson of John Kemp, Son of John Wesley Kemp, Justin Kemp was a South African national cricketer who featured in four Tests, 85 ODIs, and eight T20Is. He was a useful seamer and middle-order batsman who performed best in the shorter formats, though Kemp always wanted to flourish as a Test cricketer, although his unreliable defence found him wanting, more often than not.

Debuted in the 50-over format, Kemp played his maiden international game against Sri Lanka in January 2001. A week later, the allrounder lived his dream by donning the Whites in the longest format and took the figures of 5 for 52 against Lankans. Later, he was selected for the Caribbean tour where he found himself in the crime of consuming marijuana.

Kemp had a handful of ordinary outings the following season when his potential as an allrounder was questioned and he remained out of the reckoning until England came to visit in 2004-05. He proved himself by puncturing the English side with his 36-ball 57 in Cape Town with a 50-ball 80 in East London. Then, he scored his solitary century against India in an ODI clash. However, he fizzled out in the World Cup and soon found himself out of the international circuit.

The South African all-rounder found himself out of the selection contention through his seven-year-long international career but his power-hitting and effective seam-bowling attracted various counties as well as IPL contracts. He played ICL in 2009 and was picked up by Chennai Super Kings in the 2010 IPL auction for US$100,000.

Kemp continued to play in the South African domestic circuit until he retired himself at the end of the 2015-16 season. In 2021, he featured in the Road Safety World Series held in India where he played for the South Africa Legends.
