INDAbout Vinod Kambli
The unbeaten partnership of 664 runs with Sachin Tendulkar in the 1988 edition of the Harris Shield Trophy brought him into the national reckoning. In the same match, he had also finished with figures of 6/37.
Kambli made his ODI and Test debuts in 1991 and 1993, respectively. In his third and fourth red-ball game, the left-handed batter hit 224 and 227 against England and Zimbabwe, respectively. The Mumbai-born is the third youngest player to score a double century in the longest format.
He followed it up by scoring two centuries in his next three Test innings against Sri Lanka.
Unfortunately, the southpaw could only feature in Test cricket until 1995 and amassed 1084 runs at an average of 54.20. He is the fastest (14 innings) Indian player to reach 1000 runs in red-ball cricket.
Kambli last played in international cricket in 2000 and finished with 2477 runs, comprising two centuries in ODIs.
Currently, Kambli is one of the members of the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
