Samuel Badree

A crafty spinner from Trinidad and Tobago, Samuel Badree is a former West Indies right-arm leg spinner. Badree forged himself as a limited-overs specialist, specifically T20 cricket. A two-time T20 World Cup winner, Badree opens the bowling attack with his fast leggies and was a precise spinner in the powerplay.

Very keen on his cricketing career from an early age, Badree started his first-class career in 2002 and struggled for almost 8-10 years to find a place in the national team. The following year, he made his List A debut but wasn’t as successful as he was in the shortest format. Badree started concentrating on just the T20 format which earned him his maiden callup to the senior side in June 2012 against the Kiwis.

After a successful debut, Samuel managed to retain his place in the playing XI for the 2012 T20 World Cup that took place in Sri Lanka. The selectors needed an extra spinner in those spinning conditions and Badree was their way to go alongside the mystery spinner Sunil Narine. Two years down the lane, Badree was also part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad that was held in India. Badree’s played his last international match in August 2018 against Bangladesh and with age on his side, the West Indies Board decided to groom the youngsters.

Undoubtedly, Samuel Badree was one of the best spinners in the T20 arena who could bowl at any juncture of the match. His leg-spin bowling ensured that the opposition batsmen do not get many advantages of the fielding restrictions.
