About Faridoon Dawoodzai
Among Afghanistan’s new generation of cricketers, left-arm pacer Faridoon Dawoodzai has quietly been making a name for himself as a promising fast-bowling prospect. Born in Nangarhar, Dawoodzai represents a fresh wave of talent emerging from the country’s expanding cricket setup.
A right-handed batter and left-arm fast bowler, Dawoodzai first came into prominence through age-group cricket, representing Afghanistan Under-19s in international competitions. His ability to swing the new ball and maintain a disciplined line has made him a key figure in youth and domestic sides.
In Afghanistan’s domestic circuit, the 19-year-old has turned out for regional teams in both List A and T20 formats. The 2005-born pacer made his List A debut in May 2023, while his T20 debut came in July 2022.
In September 2025, Dawoodzai was named as a reserve player in the Afghan squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh in the UAE.
Unlike most of his peers who rely on spin, Dawoodzai’s left-arm pace offers a refreshing variation to Afghanistan’s bowling arsenal. Still in the early stages of his career, Dawoodzai continues to develop under the watch of Afghanistan’s domestic coaches.
