A product of North Queensland, Ben Dunk began his career as a wicket-keeper batsman for Queensland, but made his name as a pure batsman after moving to Tasmania.

A left-handed attacking batsman became the captain of Queensland Bulls ahead of the 2010-11 season. However, limited opportunities with the club tempted him to shift his base to Hobart.

A stint with Lancashire county club in England polished his game and Dunk came back to Australia as a better player and this was quite evident in the 2014 Big Bash League tournament, where the explosive batter amassed 395 runs at an average of 43.88, and he was named the player of the tournament.

As a result of his batting prowess in the BBL, Dunk was roped in by the Mumbai Indians for the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League.

In the 2014 Australian home summer, Dunk started the season with a bang, scoring an unbeaten 229 in the Matador Cup. The left hander became the first person in Australian domestic history to slam a double-ton in a List-A game, eclipsing the previous record of 197 held by David Warner.

The Australian selectors were impressed by his performance and Dunk was finally included in the Australian T20I squad for their series against South Africa. He had a difficult start to his international T20I career, getting dismissed for just 2 runs and was foxed by Imran Tahir with a googly.

His international performances were poor and as a result, Dunk was axed from the squad.

Dunk improved his red-ball cricket and had a stellar 2015-16 Sheffield Shield. He went on to score 837 runs in the tournament, including 4 first class centuries in the season.

Apart from BBL and IPL, Dunk has also represented Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League.

A dynamic player with an ability to clear the fence with ease, Dunk has been a consistent performer in the shortest form of the game. Now towards the twilight of his career, an opportunity with the national side looks really bleak.
