An excellent medium-pacer with all kinds of variation up his sleeve, Chris Jordan is a professional English cricketer who burst on the county circuit as an 18-year-old in 2007 when he picked up 20 wickets in five County Championship games for Surrey. Known to be a death specialist, he is someone who can score some crucial runs for his side.

Over the years, Jordan progressed steadily in the County ranks, but a freak injury hampered him in 2010. Though at a crossroads, Jordan found redemption with Sussex when Surrey released him in 2012.

Jordan debuted for England in 2014 across formats on the back of strong performances for Sussex in the County Championships. Jordan has been established over the years as one of the main bowlers in the English line-up, though other impressive seamers have taken his place in the Test format. Having earned a place in the national side, Jordan was touted to be a good new-ball bowler, but his exploits in the shortest format of the game are well-known.

His IPL journey has seen him represent several franchises over the years. Following his strong showing at the World T20 in 2016, Jordan was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore as a replacement for the injured Mitchell Starc. He appeared in nine matches that season, taking 11 wickets, with his standout performance being 4/11 against the Gujarat Lions. He was released by RCB ahead of the 2017 auction.

Ahead of the 2017 IPL season, Jordan was picked up by defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 50 lakh, though his involvement was limited to a single appearance in the eliminator against Kolkata Knight Riders. His value in franchise cricket remained high, and at the 2020 IPL auction, Kings XI Punjab secured his services for INR 3 crore. Two years later, in February 2022, he was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for the 2022 season.

Chris Jordan continued to remain a key figure in England’s white-ball setup through multiple global tournaments. In September 2021, he was named in England’s squad for the T20 World Cup. A year later, he again found a place in England’s squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Although he did not feature during the group stage, Jordan was called into the playing XI for the semi-final against India as a replacement for the injured Mark Wood. He retained his place for the final against Pakistan, where he returned figures of 2/27, playing his part in England lifting the title.

Jordan remained in England’s plans heading into the next global cycle and was named in the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup in May 2024, underlining his continued value as an experienced death-overs specialist.

Known for his extensive experience across global T20 leagues, Jordan added another chapter to his franchise career when he joined the Hobart Hurricanes for the 2023–24 Big Bash League season.
