Few cricketers have lit up the Big Bash quite like Josh Brown. A right-handed batter whose rise through Australia’s domestic ranks came later than most, Brown has quickly earned a reputation for big hitting, flair, and moments that demand attention.

The Brisbane-born cricketer didn’t play serious cricket until his teenage years. He grew up playing soccer and only began focusing on cricket at about 13. For a while, his progression was gradual — starting with club cricket (including Northern Suburbs in Brisbane) and grinding through Queensland’s second-XI. But things shifted rapidly in his mid-20s as his batting exploded in Queensland’s Premier Cricket circuit.

Brown first made headlines during the inaugural T20 Max competition in Queensland. In one standout week, he smashed two centuries: 147 off 68 balls in one match, and 159 off 59 in another, opening the batting and clearing the ropes with ease. 

His Big Bash debut came in December 2022 for Brisbane Heat. Just in his second game, he turned heads with a lightning 62 off 23 balls against the Sydney Sixers — brutal against pace, fearless against spin. 

The defining moment so far arrived in the 2023-24 BBL season. Brown scorched 140 off 57 balls during the Challenger Final match against the Adelaide Strikers — 12 sixes and 10 fours. 

"It just makes me so happy to be able to do that in front of my family," Brown said in an interview.

That knock was the backbone of Heat’s push into the Final. A couple of days later, he backed it with a crucial 53 off 38 in the championship decider, helping Brisbane claim the title.

His performances earned interest overseas. The 1993-born batter signed with the Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League and later, ahead of the 2024-25 season, moved states — joining Victoria and the Melbourne Renegades — seeking more chances and fresh challenges.

Notably, Brown made his List A debut in February 2023 and is yet to make his first-class debut.

At 31, Josh Brown isn’t your typical young gun with endless innings ahead — but he’s proving that age is just a number when you arrive with authority and impact.
