Born to Naushad Khan, who aspired to represent India, Sarfaraz Khan lives the dream for himself and his father.

The lives of the entire Khan family revolve around cricket. All the brothers, mostly Sarfaraz, the eldest, spent most of their time in the maidans (cricket fields) working on fitness, batting, bowling, and fielding. Seeing Sarfaraz’s unique ability to time the cricket ball at an extremely young age, Naushad’s dream began to take flight.

Sarfaraz was just 12 when he scored 439 runs off 421 balls in Haris Shield, Mumbai’s premier school tournament, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most runs in an innings. This gave Naushad a sense of assurance, and he was now ready to do anything to help his son reach the top level.

Sarfaraz Khan Early Career

Sarfaraz Khan was spotted at the 2014 ICC U-19 World Cup, where he impressed everyone with his aggressive batting and classy shots. He had piled on 211 runs at an astounding average economy of 70.33 in the premier tournament.

At the tender age of 17, the youngster had the world at his feet. Although he had a limited role to play in Mumbai's emphatic triumph, the youngster had surely earned his stripes to be at the podium with his teammates.

A young gun, Sarfaraz certainly has the ability and needs one big inning to shoot him back to prominence. Sarfaraz would be keeping his hopes alive and backing his abilities to return to the Indian Test team after playing his last international game in 2024.

Sarfaraz Khan IPL Career

The RCB, under the leadership of Virat Kohli, decided to bank on his talent and the team bought him in the IPL 2015 auction for Rs 50 lakh. An unforgettable day arrived for Sarfaraz Khan when the skipper Kohli bowed down to him for his 21-ball 45 against Rajasthan Royals, during which he displayed his repertoire of shots and justified the backing he was receiving from the management. His exuberant days with the RCB came to a halt when he was deemed too unfit to play for the RCB.

In a rather surprising move, the RCB decided to retain him while releasing the big names such as KL Rahul and Chris Gayle before the IPL 2018. However, Sarfaraz could not justify the retaining and failed to capitalise on the opportunities provided by the franchise, scoring a mere 51 runs from 7 innings, and was subsequently released before the IPL 2019.

Sarfaraz, who was looking to revive his T20 career, was signed by the Punjab Kings for INR 25 lakhs at the player auctions prior to IPL 2019.

While his IPL career has not yet taken off the way he would have wanted, Sarfaraz goes into IPL 2026 with his new team CSK, having scored the fastest List-A half-century by an Indian (15 balls) in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Sarfaraz Khan International Career

Sarfaraz Khan has long been regarded as one of the most consistent run-scorers in domestic cricket. Known for his compact technique, ability to play long innings, and dominance against both pace and spin, Sarfaraz built a formidable reputation with his remarkable performances in red-ball cricket.

Thus, he received his maiden India call-up in February 2024, for India's home Test series against England.

Following years of prolific domestic cricket, Sarfaraz Khan made his India Test debut on February 15, 2024, in the third match against England in Rajkot. He marked his debut with a blistering 62 off 66 balls, including a 48-ball fifty (joint-fastest by an Indian on debut).
