Nitish Rana

A talented left-handed batsman, Nitish Rana plays for Delhi in domestic cricket and for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). 

His legacy is built on consistent "heroics," having played pivotal roles in title-winning campaigns for both the Mumbai Indians (2017) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (2024).

Nitish Rana Domestic Career

Having made his List-A debut in 2012, Rana had to wait for another 3 years to make his first-class debut for Delhi, and he had a staggering debut season, amassing 557 runs at an average of 50.63 and finished as Delhi’s highest run getter in the tournament.

Rana had a great 2015 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He rose to prominence in the same tournament when he scored a majestic 97 off just 40 deliveries against Andhra Pradesh, which included 8 huge hits over the fence.

In 2023, Rana moved to the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) in the domestic circuit, seeking fresh opportunities, new challenges, and a desire to be part of a talented squad. He was also looking to revive his red-ball career with the added leadership role. However, his time with UPCA was not very successful, as neither the team nor the batter made an impact throughout the two seasons.

Thus, in January 2025, Nitish Rana officially returned to the DDCA, with the Delhi Premier League (DPL) being his first assignment after the return.

In his maiden DPL season, Nitish turned back time and captained the West Delhi Lions to victory, delivering a ‘Player of the match’ performance in the final. He was the tournament’s standout performer, scoring a much-needed 55-ball 134* in the high-octane Eliminator and finishing with high scores of 45* and 79* in the playoffs.

Nitish Rana IPL Career

Good performances in the domestic circuit caught the attention of the IPL franchises, and it was the Mumbai Indians who roped in Nitish Rana ahead of IPL 2015. In a team filled with superstars, he had to wait for his opportunity, and it was in the next season that the stylish batter showcased his talent.

In the four matches that he played, Rana scored 104 runs with the highest score of 75. MI management trusted him much more in the next season, and he could make it big for himself and his team. He scored 333 runs from 13 innings.

Kolkata Knight Riders came calling after he was released ahead of the IPL 2018 season, and he instantly became an integral part of the KKR batting setup. Rana had a decent IPL 2022, amassing 352 runs in 14 games as Kolkata finished fifth in the points table. The dashing left-hander was retained by KKR ahead of IPL 2021.

A regular name in the KKR, the management made Nitish Rana the vice captain for the title-winning season of IPL 2024. However, he failed with the bat and was released for the IPL 2025 season.

Rajasthan Royals secured the left-handed batter in the upcoming auction, but later traded him to Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2026 in return for Donovan Ferreira.

Nitish Rana International Career

In 2021, a second-string Team India, led by Shikhar Dhawan, travelled to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series against the hosts. The Virat Kohli-led Test team was in England, and India had many new faces for the white-ball series. Many debuts were handed out during the series, and one of the players who made his first appearance on that tour was Nitish Rana. The left-handed batsman played one ODI and two T20Is in the series. However, he hasn't featured for India since then.
