Riyan Parag comes from the state of Assam, a state not traditionally known for producing cricketing talent. However, Parag defied the odds and has emerged as one of the brightest cricketing prodigies from the state.

Riyan Parag Domestic Career

Born on November 10, 2001, Riyan Parag was already making waves in Indian cricket even before he turned 18.

The stylish Parag made his first-class debut for Assam in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy season; he’d already been picked for the 2016-17 Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament before that and had represented India in the 2017 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup.

Riyan was part of the India squad that won the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Following that success, he broke through the domestic ranks by finishing as Assam’s leading run-scorer in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Riyan Parag IPL Career

Riyan Parag's IPL Career brought him to the limelight, and he was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals for the 2019 season. He finished the season with a fifty, becoming the then-youngest half-centurion in the history of the world’s biggest T20 franchise league.

After a few lean seasons, Parag shone bright in IPL 2024, scoring 573 runs, including four half-centuries, and he was constantly in the Orange Cap contention. Those performances led to the youngster’s international debut, and he represented India in both T20Is and ODIs within the space of a month.

After stepping in in the absence of an injured Sanju Samson in IPL 2025, Riyan Parag has now been handed the captaincy reins at RR, with the former captain moving on. The 24-year-old started as a promising teenager with RR and now has the opportunity to lead them to a much-awaited second IPL title.

Riyan Parag International Career

Riyan Parag became the first male cricketer from Assam and the Northeast India region to represent the senior Indian team when he made his T20I debut for India on July 6, 2024, against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. It is worth noting that Parag, aged 22 at the time, received his debut cap from his father, Parag Das.

He was later selected for the T20I against Sri Lanka, where he notched up career-best bowling figures of 3 wickets, conceding 5 runs in the first T20I. It is worth noting that Riyan was a part of the Indian batting line-up that recorded the highest-ever total by the Indian team in T20Is, scoring 297/6 in 20 overs.
