Himmat Singh's, aka Himmat Singh Grewal, journey in cricket is a tale of resilience, ambition, and unyielding passion, woven into the very fabric of Delhi's rich cricketing heritage. He transformed from a promising young talent into one of Delhi’s most reliable batters, carrying the weight of expectations on his shoulders with quiet determination.

Growing up in a sports-oriented family, with an elder sister who played lawn tennis, Himmat was naturally inclined towards athletics. A relocation to South Delhi at the age of seven introduced him to gully cricket, further igniting his passion.

Recognizing his burgeoning interest, his parents enrolled him in the esteemed Sonnet Cricket Club, where he trained under the legendary coach Tarak Sinha. Himmat also attended Modern School, Barakhamba Road, an institution renowned for producing cricketing talents like Gautam Gambhir and Unmukt Chand.

Himmat's tryst with cricket began in his childhood, influenced by his father's love for the game. Initially captivated by the fiery pace of Australian legend Brett Lee, young Himmat aspired to emulate him as a fast bowler.

He once remarked, "I told my father I wanted to become like Brett Lee. My father also wanted me to become a fast bowler because then even if I don't play for India, at least I would be fit."

However, as he delved deeper into the nuances of cricket, his focus shifted towards batting, drawing inspiration from stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Andrew Flintoff, and later, Virat Kohli. His admiration for AB de Villiers was profound; he would halt everything to watch the South African maestro bat.

His first breakthrough was his List-A debut on December 18, 2015, playing for his home town-Delhi, against Andhra, at Delhi. In a successful run chase of 184, Himmat played a mature innings of unbeaten 29, helping the team to make this run chase a cakewalk.

Moving ahead in his career, he flourished in red-ball cricket. He wore his First-Class cap on October 14, 2017, against the Railways team. In his first inning, playing under Ishant Sharma, he scored 45 runs, announcing himself ready for the longest format.

Himmat has the ability to score quick runs and smash balls over the ropes. He played his maiden T20 against Punjab on January 9, 2018, in Delhi. The match wasn’t the best as he scored only six runs, and the team ended up on the losing side.

A pivotal moment in his career was during the 2024 Delhi Premier League (DPL), where he captained the Delhi East Riders to victory. Himmat's leadership was instrumental, and he led by example, scoring 381 runs in nine innings at an average of 63.50 and a striking rate of 165.65.

In January 2024, following a defeat to Puducherry, Himmat was appointed as the captain of the Delhi Ranji team, replacing Yash Dhull. The decision aimed to alleviate pressure on Dhull and leverage Himmat's experience to guide the team. Under Himmat's leadership, Delhi aimed to reclaim its former glory in the Ranji Trophy, a title they last won in the 2007-08 season.

Himmat's IPL journey began in 2019 when he was acquired by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for INR 65 lakhs. During his tenure with RCB, he had the opportunity to interact with Virat Kohli, who advised him to remain patient and focus on honing his skills.

Although his stint with RCB was brief, it provided invaluable experience. In the 2025 IPL mega auction, Himmat was signed by the Lucknow Super Giants for his base price of INR 30 lakhs, marking a new chapter in his life.
