A genuine seam bowling all-rounder, Georgia Elwiss was born in Wolverhampton, playing cricket with her brother. In her initial years, she played for the Staffordshire club before moving to Sussex at the start of the 2011 season.

Playing in the County Championships in her teenage days, Georgia got her maiden national callup at the age of 19 as a replacement for Jenny Gunn. She made her ODI debut against South Africa on October 23, 2011. She didn’t get the opportunity to bat and with the bowl she leaked 43 runs in 8 overs and went wicketless. On the same tour, she also debuted in the shortest format. In 2012, against a visiting Indian team, Georgia bagged the Player of the Series award as she picked six wickets in five matches. Her impressive performances not only fetched her the player of the series but also a spot in the England’s squad for the 2013 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Ruled out due to a back injury and broken hand from the 2013 Ashes Series and India’s tour of England in 2014 respectively, she made a comeback in the Test squad for the New Zealand series. She made her Test debut against New Zealand, once again in place of the injured Gunn, and in a poor show with the bat by England, her 46 in the second innings stood out.

Georgia joined the Melbourne Stars in the third edition of the BBL after being a crucial member in the 2017 England’s World Cup winning squad. Playing as a middle-order all-rounder in the Star’s squad, she scored 183 runs and scalped 7 wickets in her debut season of WBBL.

Being an all-rounder with a dashing personality, Georgia hasn’t played a single international fixture post Covid-19 outbreak. A short stature sportsperson, she is regarded as the fastest bowler in Wolverhampton and the current England squad. With almost six good years of cricket left in her, she would be hoping to bounce back in both international and domestic T20 leagues across the world.
