9:02 PM IST and 8:32 PM Local Time: Faisalabad Region win by 15 runs! This has been a complete bowling performance from Faisalabad. 170 was never enough but with some excellent precision, they made it looked like 200! They manage to stay alive in the tournament, JUST!
Peshawar won the toss and elected to field first. They were loose initially with the ball as the Faisalabad batters raced to 56/1 in the powerplay. The attack was on post the powerplay as well. However, the introduction of Usman Tariq brought about the breaks in the batting innings.
Faisalabad kept on losing wickets regularly with the scoring rate being brought down with every passing over. Atiq Ur Rehman held one end strong and notched up a healthy 72. Irfan Niazi (32 off 23) and Mubasir Khan (27 off 15) joined in with late flourishes. However, apart from that there was no notable score from the other batters.
What should have been 200-210 initially was brought down to 170/9 at the end of 20 overs. The pick of the bowlers for the Peshawar side were Usman Tariq (2-20) and Mohammad Nawaz (2-23). It was a well below par score considering the tournament trend.
The chase started on a good note. Both openers tonked sixes into the stands. However, in a matter of 12 balls, all went downhill. From 16/0 they collapsed to 32/4. All the four batters played ugly shots to get taken off from the crease.
However, post that there was some sort of resurgence from Nabi Gul and Israrullah. Momin got rid of Israr but that turned out to be a no ball. Both batters stitched a 50-run stand. Just as the partnership reached 71, Gul was run out in a very childish manner for 43 after he wandered meaninglessly.
Mohammad Nawaz was dismissed soon after and from 103/4, the side was stumbling at 104/6. Mohammad Imran JNR joined Israrullah and with the required rate going into 15s, they had a task on their hands. Both stitched a quick fire 40 off 19 balls. Just as it felt that they would pull off something insane, Shahzad Gul nailed a yorker to dismiss Israrullah for 47. A string of wickets followed and the Peshawar side were bundled out for 155. The pick of the bowlers for the bowling side were Afaq Afridi (4-38) and Shahzad Gul (3-21). Stay tuned for the presentations...
