Mukul Choudhary (POTM): "(His journey) My father saw a dream even before he got married, that his son will play cricket. The financial condition of my family was not great. So, I started late — at 12-13 years old. There are not too many academies in my hometown. I joined an academy in Sikar and practiced there for 5-6 years. Then, I moved to Jaipur, because you know if you want to play at a higher level, you need better practice. But then, I felt that T20 cricket was getting faster, so I played a few matches in Gurgaon which helped me.
(When did they believe that he was made for the big stage?) There was an U-19 game against UP. It was a low-scoring affair and nobody scored a lot of runs in it. I scored runs there. My father tells me that that was the day, he started believing (that I could go far.
This was only my second match under lights.
(On handling pressure) Pressure is always there. But then, god has given you an opportunity to show your prowess. If there is pressure then there is also opportunity to make a name for yourself. That is what I look at.
(What was he thinking when Shami got out?) I knew if I play till the end, I'll win it for my team. I knew if it was in my area, I would smack it.
(The shot he enjoyed the most) The first six I hit was the most enjoyable one for me. I had not been able to hit a six in the last two games. So, the first one was special.
(When 7 were needed off the last 4 balls) I knew that I needed one ball in my zone. I was waiting for it. I knew one will land there, whether it is the last one, or the second last one. I got it. I have always been a basher. If it is in my area, I smack it. It is in my blood."
