Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings Captain): [on everything coming together for CSK] "Even initially we thought that we were closer than what we were last year. We have all the bases covered with Sanju coming in. We have a great middle order as well, bowling is doing good as well. We needed that couple of wins to get that momentum. After the 3rd game we got that momentum and then we started to gel together.

[on finding a different player doing the job] On the batting side more than grateful to have Sanju in the side after the tournament that he had in the World Cup and even now. He is our backbone now. Bowling is something which wins you tournaments and to have Akeal and Jamie do that job when everyone is going for 10s or 12s. They are just coming in silently and doing the job which gives you confidence. Anshul Kamboj is also there, smart bowler and knows his strengths. He is upset about his off day but he will come back.

[on him and Sanju having similar temperament] We don't really plan. We just let know each other what the wicket is doing and how we can move forward. It is about how the match is progressing. Talk is very less. You rely on yourself to do the job. He is doing the job for me so I am very happy.

[on Kartik Sharma] The skillset was already there. There is no development as such but the skillset which he's showing in the last couple of games was always there. He needed that couple of games to start with. We were chasing higher targets as well so he didn't get the time. Last game he played 10-15 balls and got into it. He's not someone who's a wild slogger. He can rotate the strike and hit the pockets well."

Sanju Samson (Player of the Match): "They are calling me Chetta but I like Sanju more.

[on his stillness] We actually try to find out what actually works for you, you trust your basics and trust your hands to do the job in this format. I've been trying to do that since last 2-3 months. Been working on my initial movement a bit and it is coming off well.

[on his footwork] It plays a huge role in your confidence. It is tactical as well according to the bowler to move around in the crease.

[on his calmness] I am always like this. The biggest change is you are seeing me more in the middle now that's why people are saying he's calm. Even I am sitting out I am very calm. When I am batting - 'thoda zyada ho raha hai to sab dekh rahe ki ye thoda zyada calm hai'.

[on tonight's innings] Looking at what we were chasing and the wicket. Even if we had 30/35 for no loss or 1 wicket, I knew even if I take some extra bit of time and the type of shots I have, we can capitalize. Today it came off, very happy.

[on chance of hitting a 100] A hundred is always special. I had to be too selfish to get that. The other partner was batting well so I didn't tell him to give me strike to get a hundred. More games to go so let's see if I get to three figures again."
Highest Partnerships For CSK vs DC (Any Wicket) in IPL

141 - Devon Conway & Ruturaj Gaikwad, Delhi 2023 (1st Wicket)

114* - Sanju Samson & Kartik Sharma, Delhi, 2026, TONIGHT (3rd Wicket)

113 - Sanju Samson & Ayush Mhatre, Chennai 2026 (2nd Wicket)
That trade by CSK to bring in Sanju Samson was made for innings exactly like this — and with the future in mind. What a player he is! On another day, with a few extra runs on the board from DC, this could well have been another century for him this season. CSK are peaking at just the right time, with three wins in their last four games, and they’ve now completed the double over DC this year. With their next two matches against bottom-placed LSG, they’ll be eyeing four crucial points.

On the other hand, DC slump to their sixth defeat of the season, and there are plenty of question marks around their playing combination. The road ahead is straightforward but tough — they need to win all of their remaining four games to stay in contention.

Up next, we move to Hyderabad where SRH take on PBKS tomorrow. For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Akshay Bhide and Ninaad Dixit, along with scorers/analysts Paras Yadav and Manish Bishnoi and our special statistician Ajay, who brought you all the updates from this clash.
