Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe Captain): "[On their batting performance as they know the conditions better than India] Again, not upto the standards. In the morning, I think that moisture certainly played a part, but I didn't think it was going to play a part for that long. I thought it remained tough with the new ball. Unfortunately, we didn't hit many boundaries up front as well, so the ball stayed new, and because of that, I felt the movement off the deck made batting even tougher.

[About the pitch conditions in comparison to what they had during the ODI series against Bangladesh] I thought during the Bangladesh ODI series, there was a lot of moisture, and it remained there for a long time. Whereas today, I thought the moisture was there for the first eight to ten or even 12 overs, and apart from that, when India came out to bat, the wicket was very true. So, hopefully we get a better wicket for the next game so that even when we lose the toss, it doesn't play too big a part.

[On their recovery after losing early wickets] Yes, definitely. That's one of the positives. Marumani and Madhevere, it's a new role for them as well. I thought they batted really well to give us some sort of a respectable total. We'll take that as a positive, and hopefully the other guys can chip in as well so that we can put up a competitive total if we bat first. Hopefully we get better wickets in the coming games."

Mayank Yadav (Player of the Match): "(How good does it feel in contributing for a team's win) Yeah, it always feels good to contribute for the team in a win. It's a great feeling especially after coming back in blues after a long time. It's a very special moment for me.

(How did he feel bowling on that surface) Ya, the wicket was pretty good. I enjoyed a lot bowling on this wicket. This is the first time I am playing in Zimbabwe. So, it's a great wicket. I was getting good help from the wicket and I kept doing the good things.

(What differences did he find over here compared to India) I think it's the bounce which I got today. The ball was seaming a lot off the wicket, also. I was just hitting the deck and the bounce I was getting was great.

(On Prince Yadav and Ashok Sharma) Yeah, we managed to get a good start. We got a wicket off the very first ball. So, the way they were squeezing everything in their spells, helped us to get them out for 125."

Shreyas Iyer (India Captain): "[On the first win and how he is feeling to get the monkey off the back?] Exceptional performance! They were tremendous in terms of execution. Can't be more happier, getting my first win.

[How happy is he to see his team adapting to the conditions?] Absolutely, as I mentioned earlier, I was anticipating the bounce, and there was a decent amount of bounce on this wicket, especially from the hard length. It was also variable at the start of the match. I personally felt that in both the innings it was there. But the exceptional start given by Mayank, the way he bowled in terms of executing his lines and lengths, not giving them room to score runs. I think that's very critical for us, and then Vaibhav coming in the powerplay giving us an exceptional start.

[Is there a slight concern that India couldn't get Zimbabwe bundled out earlier?) In every team there is going to be a batter who is going to take the team to the hilt and post a decent total. I think they analysed the wicket pretty well and they started building partnerships. That was when I wanted to rotate my bowlers as well and make sure they get decent rhythm because we are going to play two more matches over here. So, everyone getting chances and opportunities to come and bowl and bat actually gives them a lot of confidence as well. 

[On Vaibhav Sooryavanshi] Exceptional batting by him. He's a fearless youngster, and the way he approached this innings was phenomenal. So, yeah, I think he's played here before, so he's got a fair idea about how the wickets are. He's got 175 here, I guess, in the Under-19 World Cup final, so he definitely possesses immense confidence when he steps onto the field. So, good to see it today. Good start to the series."

Phew! After going winless in his first seven games as captain, Shreyas Iyer has finally got the monkey off his back and brought that unwanted streak to an end. The World Champions looked every bit the part today, producing a dominant performance to hammer Zimbabwe by seven wickets here in Harare.

With the ball, Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav were outstanding, while the batting effort was headlined by a sensational mini-show from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who smashed his maiden T20I half-century. Zimbabwe now face a must-win game on Saturday in the 2nd T20I if they are to keep the series alive.
