After opting to bat first, Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs produced a scintillating batting display to amass a formidable 227/6 in their 20 overs. Captain Sarfaraz Khan provided the early impetus with a blistering 31 off just 10 balls before Jay Bista continued the charge with a sparkling 57 off 27 deliveries. Varun Lavande then anchored the innings with 35 before being retired out in the 18th over, a move that paved the way for Ajit Yadav to unleash a sensational assault. Yadav smashed 68 off 35 balls, ensuring the Tigers crossed the 200-run mark with ease. Despite Prathamesh Dake's two wickets and an economical spell from Mayuresh Tandel, the Falcons' bowlers struggled to contain the run flow, leaving their batters with a daunting target of 228.
SoBo Mumbai Falcons' daunting chase of 228 never really gathered momentum after the loss of Ishan Mulchandani. Ishan provided a blazing start, smashing 40 off just 15 balls with five sixes, helping the Falcons race to 58/2. However, Aakash Tigers staged a remarkable comeback, led by Shashank Attarde, who ripped through the middle order and finished with excellent figures of 4/33.
The Falcons suffered a dramatic collapse, slipping from 68/3 to 79/5, with the departure of star batter and newly-appointed India T20I captain Shreyas Iyer (10) proving a massive blow. Harsh Aghav fought a lone battle with a 36-ball 43 and added a 50-run stand with Akash Parkar, but wickets kept tumbling around him. Aditya Tare (SoBo Mumbai Falcons Captain): "[Tough outing?] Yeah, I don't think we turned up as a unit. It was an important fixture for us, but to be honest, Aakash Tigers outplayed us in all three departments.
[Did the powerplay when you were bowling hurt you the most because 89 was scored?] Yeah, it was tough to recover from that, to be honest. Sarfaraz and Jay Bista laid a great platform and batted really well. We could have done better with the ball, though. We faltered on quite a few occasions, and I felt our bowling unit could have performed a bit better, especially in the powerplay.
[What was the chat that you had in the dressing room in the innings break when you were set a target of 228?] Well, yeah, I told the boys that 228 had been chased before at this venue, so we knew that if we got a good start and built a solid platform, we would be in the game. And that’s exactly how it began. The way Ishan batted in the first three overs of the powerplay put us in the driver's seat. However, losing four wickets inside the powerplay really hurt us and made it difficult to maintain the momentum. Yeah, absolutely. We're still very much in the contest and just one win away. One good game of cricket could give us a chance to make the semi-finals, which is something we're all really striving for."

We have a strong spin attack in our team, and we plan our strategies well according to the match situation."

Sarfaraz Khan (Aakash Tigers Captain): "(On the win) That's exactly what I told the team. We included an extra batter because we wanted to score enough runs so that the game wouldn't go down to the wire like the last match.
(On batting aggressively in powerplay) Look, what I want most is to give freedom to everyone in the team. If you give people freedom, they go out and express themselves better. We brought in an extra batter, and I told all the batters to go out and play fearlessly. Even Jay and I had the same role — to go out there and play without fear. (Batting plan working today) Absolutely. You have to be ready for both possibilities. Sometimes plans work, sometimes they don't. But freedom is something that takes pressure away from players, and that's the environment I want to create in the team.
