Could Salem finish strongly after losing so much momentum? Eshwar M tried his best to provide the late surge. He made 31 off 24, including two fours and two sixes. Karthick Manikandan added 11, while Dev Rahul produced a quick unbeaten six off two balls. But Salem finished on 140/7. Cherian was the standout for Nellai with 3/22, while NS Harish took 2/21. Rahil Shah was particularly miserly with 3/13. The total was defendable on paper. But the Powerplay had other plans.
Did Salem find that extra gear in the middle overs? Not quite. Vivek reached 29 off 25 before NS Harish broke the partnership in the ninth over, with Salem 62/2. Boopathi Kumar then fell for six, before Nishaanth was run out for 36 off 37. That left Salem 80/4. The hundred came in 14.4 overs, but the innings was still crying out for acceleration. Harish Kumar's 12 off nine offered a little push before he fell at 15.5.

Salem Spartans found themselves behind from the very first over and could only manage 140/7 after being asked to bat first. Nellai Royal Kings, meanwhile, turned the chase into a sprint rather than a pursuit. Their openers smashed 80 without loss in the Powerplay and set up the game beautifully. Salem did find a brief window when three wickets fell quickly in the middle overs. But the damage had already been done. Nellai eventually finished on 146/5 in just 16.1 overs to win by five wickets.

So where was the game actually won and lost? Salem's 140/7 was never enough once Nellai's openers exploded. The 96-run opening partnership effectively decided the contest before the first drinks break could even matter. Rahil Shah's three wickets and Iyappan's two gave Salem something to celebrate. But the Kings had already built too much of a cushion.
