4:42 PM IST | Zimbabwe have done it. They have beaten Scotland by five wickets and are through to the Super 12's. Sikandar Raza's golden year with the bat and ball continues!
Earlier, Scotland won the toss and opted to bat first. But they didn’t get through to a great start, losing Michael Jones (4 off 5) and Matthew Cross (1 off 7) inside the powerplay. George Munsey and Richie Berrington added a partnership of 40 runs for the third wicket. Berrington (13 off 15) couldn’t make it count as he fell at the brink of drinks break. Munsey (54 off 51) and Calum MacLeod (25 off 26) batted well for their 34 runs for the 4th wicket, but Munsey fell after his gritty fifty. Scotland lost wickets in clusters at the fag end of the innings, which restricted them from scoring a decent total. A couple of lusty blows from Michael Leask (12 off 9) helped them to post 132/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
For Zimbabwe, Tendai Chatara (2/14) and Richard Ngarava (2/28) scalped a couple of wickets, while Sikandar Raza (1/20) and Blessing Muzarabani (1/34) picked a wicket each.
Though it wasn't a big chase, it was a tricky chase in a do-or-die situation. Like Scotland, Zimbabwe too lost wickets early inside the first two overs. Sean Williams and Craig Ervine steadied the ship via a 35-run stand for the third wicket. Williams (7 off 12), who was struggling with the timing, fell to Michael Leask in the 8th over.
Then came the man in form as Sikandar Raza smoked the bowlers around the park to take all the pressure off Zimbabwe. While Ervine anchored the innings, Raza was aggressive. The duo stitched 64 runs for the fourth wicket. Both Raza (40 off 23) and Ervine (58 off 54) fell in the span of a couple of overs. But Milton Shumba (11* off 11) and Ryan Burl (9* off 5) didn't let Scotland sneak in, as they finished the match with 9 balls remaining.
For Scotland, Josh Davey (2/16) scalped two wickets and Brad Wheal (1/26), Mark Watt (1/19), and Michael Leask (1/36) scalped a wicket each.
Stay tuned for the presentations!
