9:15 PM IST: The umpires and the players shake hands as the first Test between Zimbabwe and West Indies ends in a draw. This was a fair result with time lost due to rain and despite the best efforts of West Indies, this match ends in a draw. The second Test will be a winner take all match starting from Sunday onwards.
Let's recap the Test match for all of you. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, West Indies amassed 447/6 declared on the back of a majestic 336-run stand between Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul. Brathwaite scored 182 while Chanderpaul remained unbeaten on 207*. Brandon Mavuta got a five-wicket haul to pull things back for Zimbabwe.
In reply, Zimbabwe replied with 379/9 declared with Innocent Kaia scoring 67 and Mavuta scoring 56 down the order. But it was Garry Ballance's unbeaten 137* that took the score to 379 with support from the lower order batters. Alzarri Joseph picked up 3 wickets while Gudakesh Motie and Jason Holder grabbed a couple of wickets apiece.
West Indies with a 68-run lead lost their openers after they got starts. 50s for Raymon Reifer and Jermaine Blackwood took the score to 203/5 in 60 overs. The lead was 271. 3 wickets went to Wellington Masakadza and a couple of wickets went to Brad Evans.
Chasing an improbable 272 in 49 overs, Zimbabwe lost wickets at regular intervals. Kaia got a start and so did Chibhabha, but nothing to ride home about. They got to 134/6 in 54 overs when the match was declared a draw. Gudakesh Motie was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets while Roston Chase picked up a couple of wickets. Too much to do as the match ended in a draw.
