11:53 PM IST, 20:23 Local Time: A convincing victory for Australia and they lead the five-match ODI series 2-0. The test and trial procedure is still going well for the visitors.
A target of 393 runs was always going to be ultra-challenging for any side and the South Africans succumbed under pressure. Eventually, a massive dent to the Proteas side who fell short by 128 runs.
Arriving for the chase, Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma initiated things in a rollicking manner. QDK seemed to have found his groove back while Bavuma continued from where he ended in the last game. The innings had four individual scores in the 40s. De Kock and Bavuma touched 45 and 46 respectively while David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen were unlucky enough to get out for 49 each. After an 81-run opening stand, the two decent partnerships was between Miller-Klaasen, tailoring 58 runs together for the fifth wicket, and Jansen-Miller, adding 64 runs to the tally.
It did not take much time for the Kangaroos after Nathan Ellis trapped Miller leg before wicket in the 36th over. Adam Zampa sent back Jansen and the remaining three fell in quick time with Sean Abbott nailing the final two blows with the ball. Zampa earned four wickets, followed by a couple each for Abbott, Aaron Hardie, and Nathan Ellis.
When South Africa won the toss, they chose to bowl first, but that choice had disastrous consequences. The Australian openers quickly accelerated to a century stand within the first 10 overs, defying expectations for a drier wicket and proving that the pitch was excellent for batters. The key player in that partnership was Travis Head, who sped to an eventual score of 64 runs off 36 balls to give the Australians the start they required.
When Tabraiz Shamsi arrived on the scene and promptly dismissed Head and Marsh off consecutive deliveries, it appeared as though the game had been transformed. David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne, however, had different plans. The pair then put together a massive 151 run-stand!
Warner struck a spellbinding 106 off 93 balls while Labuschagne stormed 124 runs off 99 balls. It was followed by a fiery knock of 50 off 37 balls from Josh Inglis which propelled the scoreboard to 392.. But it was Tabraiz Shamsi's four-for coupled with Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen's hard work that helped them restrict the Aussies to less than 400.
Stay tuned for the post-match presentation ceremony.
