2:04 AM IST & 9:34 PM Local Time: That's it! Birmingham Phoenix have defied the rain and booked themselves a place in the Eliminator with a 9-wicket win over Manchester Originals in a rain-curtailed encounter at home. Moeen Ali with the winning runs and they will take on Southern Brave in the Eliminator on Saturday (August 17).
Earlier in the match, Manchester Originals, after being put into bat could only make 41/5 from their set of 30 balls.
The match was reduced to 30-ball per side because of heavy downpour in Birmingham. Phil Salt (12 off 8) and Max Holden (15 off 10) were the only batters who managed to get to double figures as the rest struggled to get the big shots away and perished.
Matthew Hurst was out for a golden duck. Paul Walter made 1 off 2, while Sikandar Raza scored 3 runs off 4 balls. Jamie Overton remained unbeaten on 3 off 4 and Tom Hartly was not out on 1 after facing only one delivery in the innings.
Adam Milne picked up two wickets, while Tim Southee, Sean Abbott and Chris Wood all got one scalp each.
In reply, Ben Duckett and Jamie Smith put on an opening stand of 35 off 18 balls. Smith departed for 14 off 7 but Duckett stood his ground and he was joined by his skipper Moeen Ali, who finished things off in style with a big hit over deep fine leg to confirm his team's place in the Eliminator.
Manchester Originals end a disappointing season with yet another defeat. Without their regular skipper Jos Buttler, nothing seemed to go right for them from the start.
Although they found themselves in winning positions in a few games, missing those opportunities meant they couldn’t secure the points needed to reach the top three.
