9:59 PM IST and 5:29 PM Local Time | Northern Superchargers Women have started their campaign with a massive victory over Welsh Fire Women. The 47-run victory to start the season is a huge boost to their confidence. Welsh Fire got completely outplayed in the game.
Northern Superchargers Women came to bat first and got off to a good start. But they lost two wicket in quick succession as Freya Davies trapped Davidson-Richards (14) and in the next set, Phoebe Litchfield found Tammy Beaumont at point off Shabnim Ismail. The other opener Davina Perrin batted for 24 balls and hit 3 boundaries but scored only 21. She played a lot of dot balls before Hayley Matthews got the better of her.
Annabel Sutherland decided to take the bowlers on and she scored 28 off 20 balls with 3 fours and a maximum. But the 5th wicket stand was the game changer for the Northern Superchargers. Hollie Armitage and Georgia Wareham added 52 runs and remained unbeaten. Armitage played a captain's knock of unbeaten 34 runs off 27 balls. Georgia Wareham scored 29* off 17 to take the score to 141/4.
Hayley Matthews was the star of the bowling picking up 2 wickets for 18 runs. Shabnim Ismail and Freya Davies took a wicket each.
Coming to chase the 142-run target, Welsh Fire lost their openers for cheap scores. Sophia Dunkley and Hayley Matthews departed with the team score of just 6 runs and that kept the Superchargers in a dominating position. However skipper Tammy Beaumont was not in a mood to give up. She added 42 runs for the 3rd wicket with Georgia Elwiss. But Elwiss ran herself out trying to snatch a quick single and that broke the momentum.
Tammy Beaumont hit 3 fours and 3 sixes on her way to score 36 but the wickets kept tumbling at the other end. Jess Jonassen, Sarah Bryce, Emily Windsor- nobody stood firm at the crease. The wickets thwarted the pressure on Beaumont and the Welsh Fire skipper found her opposite number Hollie Armitage at cover off Ballinger. Welsh Fire were soon reduced to 76 for 9 at the end of the 15th set. The final two batters put up a fight to reduce the deficit. They added 28 runs for the final wicket. Shabnim Ismail remained unbeaten on 9 off 15 balls and Katie Levick was the final wicket to go down for the Welsh Fire as they got bundled out for just 94.
For the Northern Superchargers Women, Linsey Smith, Georgia Wareham and Grace Ballinger took two wickets each. Kate Cross and Annabel Sutherland took a wicket each.
