9:54 PM IST, 5:23 PM Local Time: A commanding win for the Rockets, who thrashed Oval Invincibles Women by six wickets with 16 balls to spare, keeping their tournament hopes alive. Also, this is the first time Trent Rockets Women have defeated Oval Invincibles Women in Women's The Hundred.
Earlier, put in to bat on a tacky surface, the Invincibles found it hard to build momentum. Skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill (7) fell early, and while Meg Lanning (45 off 35) and Alice Capsey (15) attempted to rebuild, regular breakthroughs halted progress. Gardner removed both Marizanne Kapp and Lanning in a decisive spell, finishing with 2/10, while Kirstie Gordon chipped in with 2/21. Paige Scholfield’s unbeaten 16, capped with a six, only lifted the total to 109/7.
In response to 109 runs, the Trent Rockets Women got off to a solid start, with their openers Bryony Smith and Grace Scrivens scoring briskly from the outset. The opening pair added 51 runs for the first wicket, with Smith departing for 24 runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt (2) and Ashleigh Gardner (11) failed to impress with the bat and departed cheaply, and were soon followed by set batter Scrivens (34) as the Rockets lost three wickets in quick succession.
Oval Invincibles Women curbed the scoring rate for a while, but it wasn’t enough, as Jodi Grewcock (21*) and Heather Graham (19*) ensured the Rockets crossed the line easily with 16 balls to spare.
The Invincibles struggled to maintain control, conceding runs at regular intervals and failing to apply sustained pressure on the Rockets’ batters. Marizanne Kapp, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Kalea Moore, and Alice Capsey managed a wicket apiece but couldn’t prevent the flow of runs.
