Bangladesh held their nerve to hand Afghanistan a close eight-run defeat in a cliffhanger at Sheikh Zayed Stadium. With this win, the Litton Das-led side has climbed to the second place with four points, but the Tigers' group games are done. They don't have any more games left in Group B. All they can do now is pray for Afghanistan's loss against Sri Lanka. That will be a big game on Thursday (September 18). If Afghanistan win, they will advance to the Super 4s, with one of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh qualifying based on their net run rate. As of now, it is the Bangla Tigers who are having a negative net run rate!
We have a virtual knockout fixture coming up tomorrow, with Pakistan and UAE taking the field in a Group A clash. The winner will join India in the Super 4s.
For now, this is me, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators, Pritam Dey and Akshay Bhide, who, alongside our scorer Zeeshan Naiyer and statistician Aman, brought you all the live action of this humdinger. We will meet again. Until then, it is cheers!
