6:30 PM IST and 9:00 PM Local Time: Absolute humdinger of a game! One that only the shortest format of the game can produce. Ebbs and flows right through and eventually the home side, the Perth Scorchers eke out, what will be a hall of fame victory by just 1 run! Agony for the Adelaide Strikers as they were so close but yet so far. That is how cricket is though, dreamy for some and dreadful for the others.
The Scorchers were put into bat first. Katie Mack and Beth Money departed early. However, post that Maddie Darke and Sophie Devine brought calm to the storm. They got the team from 15/2 to 59/3 as Darke got dismissed. However, from then on Sophie Devine joined hands with Paige Scholfield and they scored at a good rate to get the Scorchers to a decent 159 in their 20 overs.
Devine ended with 49 not out and Scholfield was 46 not out when the 20 overs were up. Darcie Brown was the pick of the bowlers for the Strikers as she got 2-25 to her name in her four overs spell. The chase began on an iffy note for the Strikers. Tammy Beaumont got dismissed early leaving the team 15-1.
That is when Laura Wolvaardt and Madeline Penna added 62 runs for the second wicket. They still were pretty much on track, but all hell broke loose when Laura Wolvaardt got dismissed for 41. The Strikers from 107/3 stumbled to 122/8. They lost three wickets in three balls at one stage, and one could easily count them out.
An inspired Sophie Ecclestone from nowhere got a couple to the boundary and once she was dismissed to everyone's surprise Darcie Brown emerged as a good batter. With 13 required off the last over, Brown hit two boundaries to get the equation down to 2 off 2.
That is when her non-regularity as a batter showed as she popped one straight up and a running Mooney took a fantastic catch to make the Scorchers win. For the Perth Scorchers it was Amy Edgar who was chief destroyer! A dream spell of 4-25 in her 4 overs absolutely dented the Strikers! One has to feel for the Strikers and Brown in particular, but the end result was that the Scorchers were victorious.
