IND U19 won by 204 runs
8:28 PM IST, 4:58 PM Local Time: India U19 register a win by a huge margin of 204 runs. Zimbabwe U19 have collapsed from 142/4 to 148 all out in a matter of a few overs. Excellent all-round performance by India as they register their first win in the Super Sixes stage of this World Cup.

After posting 352 runs, India U19 had their tails up. With the ball, the Indian pacers started on a perfect note as Henil Patel and RS Ambrish bagged three wickets between them with the new ball. It seemed that India would run through the opposition with the new ball itself, but then the Zimbabwe U19 middle order showed their mettle.

Kian Blignaut and Leeroy Chiwaula had a 69-run stand between them for the fourth wicket. Both of them were looking solid, as they were playing the opposition spinners near-perfectly. However, then came the twist as Khilan Patel bowled a peach to break past K Blignaut. After losing a firm partner, Chiwaula didn't lose his hopes, as he staged a 49-run partnership with Tatenda Chimugoro.

Udhav Mohan came back for his return spell, and he wrapped up the game for IND U19. Mohan and Ayush Mhatre cleaned up the lower middle order and the tail in no time. As a result, India U19 won their opening game in Super Six by a handsome margin.
Player of the Match: Vihaan Malhotra
Vihaan Malhotra (POTM): "It’s a great feeling to contribute for the team with the bat, and I had a great day.

(On partnership with Abhigyan Kundu) Actually, we had so many overs to go, so we both planned that we would just take the game long and take the occasional boundary in between. So yes, that was the plan.

(On conditions) Yes, it was hot today. We’ve been having cloudy weather with winds. The pacers have been getting help from the wicket, but today it was a little hot and the pitch was nicer, so it was nice to be playing this game.

(On Abhigyan Kundu) Actually, he was playing his normal game. He was finding his boundaries where he is strong, and we were just having a good chat in the middle. Our communication was good, and that’s why our partnership was so healthy."
Simbarashe Mudzengerere (Zimbabwe U19 Captain): "(On batting first would have been better) I would still like to bowl first with that option. I think it was just a matter of a little bit of execution. If we had executed earlier, we could have taken more wickets and restricted them.

(Elaborate on execution) I think the bowlers were bowling a little bit fuller, which was not needed at that time. Also, they weren’t reading the conditions very well, knowing how the wicket was playing earlier and also the boundary.

(On batting with Tatenda Chimugoro) I was just telling him—he’s a big hitter—so I told him to go for it if it comes in his zone. I was just trying to rotate the strike, giving him more of the strike.

(On the style of play of India) I think playing fearless cricket—anything that’s on, going for it. They weren’t holding back on any bad balls."
Ayush Mhatre (India U19 Captain): "Yeah, really happy that the boys are doing well. We will look to take this momentum forward.

(On Vihaan Malhotra's form) We have never doubted him. The way he bats, he always scores tough runs for us. The boys are looking for their chances; they are eager to get their chances and perform. He is a patient batter. He and Kundu built a tremendous partnership for us.

(On his bowling) The batters were going good, so I came in and took a chance.

(On the IND vs PAK game) We are excited for that game. We just want to play the game and not the opposition. We will ourselves."
Right then. India U19 were too much for Zimbabwe U19 today. Now, the Boys in Blue will face their archrivals Pakistan U19 this coming Sunday - all eyes will be on that game. Meanwhile, the Chevrons will be up next against Bangladesh U19 on Saturday. Tomorrow, there will a massive game as well in this U19 WC!

See you there. Till then, this is Arjun Bhalla signing off on behalf of Mohammad Anab and Sahil Khan.
