10:16 PM IST, 5:46 PM Local Time: There you go. The London Derby ends in a Tie. After 200 balls, we couldn't separate both sides and the match ends in a Tie. First of this season. There were plenty of ebbs and flows throughout the game and eventually, both sides finish with the exact same score and have to settle for two points each.
MI London were asked to bat first. Their openers Hayley Matthews (18) and Alice Davidson-Richards (10) got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. Skipper Hollie Armitage along with Amelia Kerr stitched a wonderful 46-run stand which steadied the ship for the hosts. Armitage (23) got cleaned up on 62nd ball.
Nicola Carey at five fell after scoring a run-a-ball 11. The platform was set for a strong finish and the duo of Kerr and Chinelle Henry didn’t disappoint. Both put 55 between them. Kerr and Henry remained unbeaten on 49 (32) and 33 (12) respectively to power MI London to 151/4. For the hosts, Marizanne Kapp (2/24) bowled beautifully and picked up two scalps.
Chasing 152, Spirit lost Grace Harris on a golden duck on the very first ball. Amy Jones was joined by Marie Kelly, who came out all guns blazing and took her side to 40/1 at the end of the powerplay. She scored a quickfire 28-ball 45 before holing out in the deep as the 68-run stand was broken in the 10th set.
Marizanne Kapp (25 off 13) and Jones (49) added 51 between them before both fell in a quick succession. Deandra Dottin and Nadine de Klerk took the game deep. It went down to the wire and London Spirit required 9 runs from the final set, which was bowled by Hayley Matthews. Dottin found the fence on the very first ball before picking up a single on the next.
de Klerk tried to finish things off in style but fell in the process on 13. Skipper Charlie Dean (1*) picked up a single on the fourth ball of the set. With 3 required from the final ball, Dottin (13*) mistimed one in the deep mid wicket region and scampered back to complete the second run as London Spirit finished their innings on 151/5, ending the game in a tie.
Kirstie Gordon (2/29) and Hayley Matthews (2/33) picked up two wickets each for MI London. With this result, MI London manage to grab their first points. However, both sides will be disappointed as they will rue the missed opportunities. Had they been more clinical, they would have finished on the winning side. But in life and cricket, there are no ifs and buts. You have to accept the result and move forward.

Marie Kelly (Hero of the Match): "(How's the feeling after the match ending in a Tie?) Yeah, I was really nervous watching the game actually. You are more nervous staying on the sidelines than being in the middle where you can do something about it. I probably feel a bit flat that we have drawn that after being in a great position. Credit to them that they pulled it off really well.
(On her innings) Yeah, it was a bit tricky to start with. We just tried to get used to the extra bounce on this surface. There was a strong wind that was blowing across the ground. So, we were just trying to work those things out. In a chase like that, you just want to get off to a good start and give least amount of pressure to your middle order batters.
(Was the score of 151 chaseable?) Yeah. We just gave away a few extra runs in the last 10-15 balls. But at the Oval here, you know that you are never out of the game. We saw how Chinelle Henry batted in the fag end of their innings. How quickly you can get 20 extra runs. So, we felt that it was an achievable chase."
