Sydney Thunder Women have been robbed off a win tonight here at Adelaide Oval. The umpires had a chat among themselves and decided to call off the game, with Thunder Women requiring just three runs to win. A heartbreak for the Thunder Women as they fall agonizingly short of a well-deserved victory. The Strikers Women, meanwhile, will be very happy as they have survived a major scare at home. At the end of the day, both sides share a point each.

The Strikers Women were asked to bat first and they lost Ellie Johnston on two in the second over. Laura Wolvaardt, opening the batting, got in the groove after facing a couple of balls. She played some lovely strokes and scored 22 off 13 before holing out in the deep in the penultimate over.

Skipper Tahlia McGrath at four played a fine cameo of six-ball 12* as it powered the Strikers Women to 45/2 at the end of their innings. Pacers Shabnim Ismail (1/6) and Lucy Finn (1/12) picked up a wicket each for the Thunder side.

Chasing 46, Thunder skipper Phoebe Litchfield came out all guns blazing at the top of the order. She meant business right from ball one and made her intentions clear. She played some outstanding strokes and took Darcie Brown to the cleaners in the second over, scoring 22 runs in it.

It continued to rain at Adelaide Oval but there was no stopping Litchfield as she continued to deal in boundaries and took her side within touching distance. Litchfield scored 38 off 15 before getting dropped on the fifth ball of the third over. The on-field umpires had a chat and decided to take off the players due to the rain. Litchfield and Georgia Voll along with the Thunder players were in disbelief as they were just a shot away from victory.

The players from both sides shook hands as Sydney Thunder Women were left reeling at 43/0 after 2.5 overs, three short of the target. Litchfield's sensational knock of 15-ball 38* wasn't enough as the match ended in a no result, with both sides sharing a point each. The Strikers Women will be happy with the end result but no so the Thunder Women as they were completely robbed off 2 points tonight.

Tahlia McGrath (Adelaide Strikers Women Captain): "We were having a lot of conversations. When Darcie started her over, it was coming down very heavily. Darcie was struggling to grip the ball.

I just asked the umpire if it wasn’t a 5-over contest, had we gone off? The answer was yes. Tough one. The ball was slippery and the umpires made the call."

Phoebe Litchfield (Sydney Thunder Women Captain): "Bit disappointed. It’s a shame. It was actually a really entertaining game. It was pretty much we want to get the game on. We needed two points. The groundsmen did an excellent job. Disappointing to not get a result.

It was pretty wet out there. I was feeling for Darcie. But we have to kind of look back at the last ball which was a full toss and I should have chosen not to run. But we will move on to the next fixture which is the Sydney Smash.

We gotta win. If we want to qualify for the finals, we need to win. Get to the group and get the wins."
