BAN won by 5 wickets (DLS METHOD)
7:52 PM IST, 8:22 PM Local Time: Bangladesh script history winning their first ever bilateral ODI series against the World Champions Australia getting an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series, winning the rain hit encounter by 5 wickets!

Australia skipper Josh Inglis won the toss and opted to bat first bringing in Riley Meredith in the XI. The Bangladeshi opening bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman started off well keeping the score down to 0/3. Half centuries from Marnus Labuschagne (55* off 85 balls) and Xavier Bartlett (52 off 48) rescued Australia as they put 187/8 in 42 overs when rain arrived and play was halted for almost a couple of hours.

Bangladesh were set to win 192 in 41 overs according to DLS and lost Tanzid Hasan for a duck in the very first over as Bartlett chipped in the opening over. Soumya Sarkar (42 off 47) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (41 off 53) joined forces for the 2nd wicket and added 86 runs.

Both the batters were dismissed in quick succession, Litton Das could score 21 off 18 and was dismissed by Cameron Green off a bouncer. Towhid Hridoy lost Mosaddek Hossain at the other end as well but was joined by skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz who despite getting hit on the helmet stayed till the end and ensured his side finished on the winning side.

Miraz remained unbeaten with a run-a-ball 22 hitting a four and the winning six. Hridoy's unbeaten 40 had 2 fours and a six. Bartlett, Meredith, Adam Zampa, Matt Renshaw and Green all picked up a wicket apiece but failed to contain the scoring rate especially against the two partnerships between Sarkar & Shanto, and Mehidy and Hridoy.
Time for the post-match presentations with Athar Ali Khan.
Josh Inglis (Australia Captain): "(On Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett's partnership getting them to a decent total) Yeah it did. As you said. Anytime you lose 3 wickets early it is hard to come back from. The partnership from Marnus and Xavier got us to a total. It was below part but at least something for our bowlers to bowl at.

(Was it wrong to bat first on this track?) No, I don't think so. If we had gotten through those first few overs unscathed, the wicket was a pretty good one to bat on. It was slower than the one in the previous game. So, it was a good wicket to bat on.

(Did the team believe they could defend these runs?) Yes definitely, when you are in those situations, you have to put everything out there and give your absolute best to win the match. If we would have gotten a few early nicks with the new ball, we would have had a shot at victory. Though I felt we held them back really well in the middle overs.

(Message to the team going forward) Just to sharpen up in all three facets. I think we have had starts in all three departments, but we just are not able to capitalize on them. I think Bangladesh have outplayed us in every department and congratulations to them on doing that."
Player of the Match: Mustafizur Rahman
Mustafizur Rahman (POTM): "(His plans with the new ball) I always try to extract some swing with the new ball in my hand. Normally I enjoy bowling with the old ball, however, when the team needs me to step up, I try to do my best according to the skills I have.

(On his fitness) Fitness is good. Pain is part of a fast bowler's career; however, it is part of the game."
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh Vice Captain): [on Mehidy's fitness] "Looks fine but we have to observe him tonight. Probably he went to hospital.

[on historic series win] It means a lot. I can't tell you in my words. It's amazing feeling. The way we played this series, showed a lot of courage. We have been working really hard last few months and wanted to improve our game and the way we played was outstanding and I am proud to be part of this team.

[on the collective effort of the team] That's what we want - to play as a team. We wanted to improve every skill. Everyone wanted to contribute for every single match in fielding and bowling. The boys showed a lot of character. The benched players also helped a lot. We want to continue those little things and improve a lot.

[on 3rd ODI] Very important if you look at how we played. We want to win and compete and chip in the next match as well."
