10:20 PM IST, 19:50 Local Time: Ben Stokes leads the England side off the field after inducing a thrashing defeat to New Zealand by a margin of 181 runs. And why not? His scintillating 182 off 124 runs became almost the difference in this third ODI between England and New Zealand. The Black Caps even failed to beat the third-wicket partnership between Stokes and Malan by a margin of 12 runs.

The pace bowling duo of Chris Woakes and Reece Topley initiated the over brilliantly. They got the ball to swing laterally and it challenged the openers of the Kiwis. Chris Rogers Woakes drew the first blood after getting the batter of Will Young and Reece Topley struck Conway at the pads from the other. The former got a straight eight over burst due to his breathtaking bowling and the Kiwis had lost four wickets inside the first powerplay.
Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell were looking to rebuild the innings but after a while, Sam Curran dished in a length delivery around the off peg that kissed the outside edge of the bat, as witnessed via the big screen due to a successful England review.
Phillips transpired to be the lone warrior at the end of the innings with a score of 72 from 76 balls. He was accompanied by Rachin Ravindra for the sixth wicket for a healthy amount of time, tailoring 46 runs together. Just when New Zealand would’ve looked to take advantage of these early England jolts, two southpaws disguised in the name of Ben Stokes and Dawid Malan stood in their way. The tag team notched up a partnership of 199 runs together for the third wicket changing the complexion of the game completely in favor of the Three Lions.
Stokes took his time to get to the fifty runs mark and accelerated right away. Malan played his strokes and fell shy of a ton by just four runs. It was Stokes who was bludgeoning the bowlers all around then and piled up his career-best ODI score of 182 runs. The Durham-based cricketer also went on to become the English cricketer with the highest individual score in ODIs, beating Jason Roy’s 180 against Australia.
The next set of seven batters contributed only 69 runs with Buttler scoring 38 off 24 balls. Eventually, England were folded up for 368 runs with eleven balls to spare. Trent Boult ended up with a fifer while Ben Lister was the next best in the wicket’s column with a three-wicket haul.
Ben Stokes (Player of the match): "Yeah, it was. Obviously, coming back into the team after a while. It's always nice to come in and contribute towards winning games. [speaking about highest individual score for Ebgland] Yeah, I apologize to him [Jason Roy] upstairs. Yeah. But look, it's just a good wicket. I think the conditions did actually change once the lights came on. They got off to good starts, getting early wickets, but we wanted to counteract that with the way that we went about it today. As the experience plays, you want to be showing the guys that you can go out there and do that. It's not just words and sometimes it doesn't always happen. We tried to do that at Southampton. It didn't quite work, but today we wanted sort of put more and more on them.
Boult at the top of that new ball has been very, very good for New Zealand, but you still got to try and put quality bowlers off their length and line and not let them settle into a rhythm and let them bowl at you. So putting the pressure back onto them is sort of making them go away from their plan quicker than we did in the first few games is something that we want them to do.

[Speaking about Malan] He's a very consistent player. He's a quality player. He comes in and everyone knows what he's about. He's unlucky to scramble one there down the leg side. But I enjoyed batting with him."
Tom Latham (New Zealand Captain): "The way Stokesy [Ben Stokes] and Dawid [Malan] played, it was fantastic. As a partnership, we tried to break the partnership but they threw the counter at us. 40-4 and you were back at the wall.
Yeah, I think from the position where they were in, the way we pulled things back and bowled them out in the scrub, was good. To be able to get through that period. When someone builds partnership, it is hard to break.
Nothing’s concerning. I think he [Trent Boult] gets to prove from time to time. But I think at one position, they were looking at 400. But the way we pulled things back was nice. Stokesy played extremely well I think. When the backs are against the wall, you will try to see and get up. Full credit to the way how Stokesy played.
Ah, think probably a misperception. In that position, we will say try and bat in the middle. Obviously, a fantastic wicket, but we were thoroughly outplayed today. We will look to level the series."
Jos Buttler (England Captain): "Yeah, really pleased with the performance. Being both at the top about wanting us to be more aggressive and put the opposite position under more pressure. We were tested with that as well, losing two early wickets. A brilliant partnership between Malan and Stokes put the pressure back on them.
Malan has done brilliantly well every time he gets his chance, and I thought that new ball spell from Topley and Woakes is as good a new ball bowling as you'll see on a good wicket. They found lateral movement, the control of line and length was exceptional, and really put New Zealand behind again.
I think the most important thing was that message of being aggressive and falling on that positive side and scoring a total like that and still not batting a couple of overs is actually a great sign in that sense. So really pleased with that and I feel like we're trending in the right direction."
