Gus is a standout. He is a guy that is going to be spoken about a lot. Also, Matt Potts and Stone. Those 30-40 runs can take you into good positions and those runs were very crucial.
(On not enforcing the follow-on) It just made sense that the pitch was gradually getting worse. It was important to give the bowlers some time off the field and then have 10 wickets to pick rather than 20 on the trot.
We gave the spinners a crack. We could have tried something different but we knew the new ball was crucial. That was the reason we walked off. Absolutely. It’s always a special Test and there are a few more Surrey boys who will be looking forward to the next Test.”
