Ghent Gladiators

2/15
Ali Khan (POTM): "Yeah! It feels nice to win the trophy and contribute to the side. I am really happy with my performance and glad that we won the tournament.

(On his strategy today) Just focused on the target areas on the surface and knew that the wicket had enough in it to make the ball talk.

(On getting Guptill's wicket) Martin and I go a long way back. He was my first captain when I started playing T20 leagues. We still keep sharing messages. It's nice to get the wicket of a quality batter like him."
Best Batter of the Tournament: Josh Brown
Best Bowler of the Tournament: Tristan Luus
Best Bowling in an Innings: Khalid Ahmadi
Most Valuable Player of the Tournament: JJ Smit
Martin Guptill, the Antwerp Anchors captain is coming up to the podium to receive the runners up medal. Rest of the players are following their skippers to the podium.
Ghent Gladiators, the inaugural champions of the EUT20 Belgium are receiving their champions medals now. Temba Bavuma walks up to the podium first and then the others come one by one.
Temba Bavuma (Ghent Gladiators Captain): "(On the final getting nervous) Yeah, I think we have a way of making games quite interesting. Fortunately for us, we ended up on the right side of the result. I think the tournament itself has been a memorable one, both on and off the field. For a group of players who only came together a few days ago, we've managed to play good cricket whenever we needed to. So overall, it's been a really good experience.

(On the campaign) That's something we've spoken about within the team. We felt that whenever we had the opportunity to play, we generally played good cricket. It was really a matter of finding a way to put everything together—both bat and ball—and making sure the result went in our favour. I think we've put on a spectacle for the fans.

We've certainly kept them on the edge of their seats. To be honest, I was on the edge of my seat myself during those final few overs today! Thankfully, Dwaine Pretorius and the boys managed to get us over the line.

(Moment that stands out) Honestly, it's probably the rain. Waking up every morning knowing there was almost no chance of play, but still having to come to the ground, go through inspections, wait for the umpires' decisions, and prepare as if a game might happen—that was probably the most challenging part.

At times, it became a little frustrating, but it's all part of the experience. I can now officially say that I was part of cricket history in Belgium, having played in the inaugural EUT20 Belgium tournament. Hopefully, the competition continues to grow and become even bigger and better in the years to come."
Temba Bavuma receives the EUT20 Belgium 2026 trophy and the crowd roars in delight. Ghent Gladiators get a boisterous applause as Robin Chaudhary, the founder and CEO of the tournament hands the trophy to the skipper Temba. Temba then walks up to join his teammates. Now they are posing behind the champions' board and celebrations galore!
The inaugural edition of the EUT20 Belgium 2026 comes to an end here. 9 days, 18 T20 matches, a fitting grand finale and Ghent Gladiators eventually emerge out as the champions of the tournament. Barring the rain interruptions and washout games, the tournament was a fiercely competitive one. The fitting finale is the testament of it.

As we are talking about a fitting finale, we must mention that it was a humdinger of an encounter. A sloppy start from Antwerp Anchors was recovered well by Martin Guptill and Tom Moores to post a competitive total on the board. Ali Khan's spell stood out for the Gladiators. We saw a blistering start to the run chase by Sam Harper, we saw the Anchors to find the momentum back. We saw Gladiators' batters to dominate in the first half of the chase, while the Anchors' batters pulled things back in the next half. Tristan Luus, the best bowler of the tournament almost defended four runs in the final over but an error from him made him pay dearly and the Gladiators got home.

Temba Bavuma leading a side in the month of June in a grand finale- the combination once again clicks and Ghent Gladiators keep their nerves to come out victorious.

For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Mohammad Anab and the scorer/analyst of this match Paras Yadav. Good night!
