5:22 PM IST, Local Time: India: 402 All Out! This has been an act of demolishment from the hosts. The phase in the middle was so aggressive that it could have been rated A for violence had it been a movie. The scorecard could have looked a lot worse than this had Afghanistan not found wickets at the backend as the hosts were threatening to breach 500 at one point. However, with some good bowling in the last 10 overs, Afghanistan have given themselves a chance to chase this total down. Make no mistake, it will still take an extraordinary effort.

Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bowl first. That was a decision they were going to regret big time. Funnily enough, Shubman Gill also wanted to bowl first, had he won the toss. However, India did get off to the best start as Yashasvi Jaiswal cut one straight to point in the second over itself and the hosts found themselves at 9/1. That was the last thing the Afghans smiled about for a long time.

The second wicket stand between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 87 to the total with both batters playing some lovely strokes all across the turf. Rohit was inches away from his 50 as a beautiful googly from Rashid Khan bamboozled the opener for 48. What was to come was a hurricane of runs.

Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill added 224 runs for the 3rd wicket. The left hander was the aggressor in that partnership, and he caught up with his captain in a flash by nailing maximums left right and center. It was a beautiful combination of rock music and classical music. Shubman Gill would play exquisite drives on one end. Ishan Kishan would just blast the ball with a powerful swipe across the line with one hand often coming off. Both got to their 100s in the same over.

Ishan Kishan was finally dismissed by Nangeyalia Kharote after he mistimed one straight down the throat of deep midwicket. He was dismissed for 125. Gill was struggling with cramps and was not able to run 2s, so he too started playing some expansive strokes at the backend of his knock. He crossed 150 before mistiming a switch hit down the through of the sweeper fielder. Gill was gone for 154.

India were 360/4 after his dismissal. The ball was very soft and the batters coming in could not find the middle of the bat as the Afghans resorted to spin and some pace variation. Kharote dismissed both Ishan and Gill. He followed that by dismissing KL Rahul for a first ball duck and Shreyas Iyer for 26.

The Indian middle and lower order just collapsed in the attempt to clear the fence and gifted wickets to the likes of Kharote, Allah Ghazanfar and Rashid Khan. Eventually India were bundled out for 402. The pick of the bowlers were Nangeyalia Kharote (4/76) and Rashid Khan (3/48). This is a daunting task in front of Afghanistan. However, they will know that it could have been a lot worse. If they start off well and one of their batters had a day out, they certainly can be in contention to chase the target down.
