9:15 PM IST and Local Time: A thriller at Wankhede stadium comes to an end as Australia come out victorious by 3 runs to get an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series against the Indian side.
Quick recap to the match as Australia won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 258/8 with Phoebe Litchfield (63) and Ellyse Perry (50) scoring half centuries. Deepti Sharma starred with the ball with figures of 5/38.
There were a lot of dropped catches in the first innings and the trend continued in the second innings till the last over of the match. The opening pair of Yastika Bhatia (14) and Smriti Mandhana (34) added 37 for the first wicket before Kim Garth broke the stand in the 7th over.
Mandhana joined forces with Richa Ghosh adding 34 for the second wicket before Alana King made her play a rash stroke and got the scalp. Richa continued her good form and added 88 runs with Jemimah Rodrigues (44 off 55).
Richa's strike rate was a sign of concern with the chase looking to go deep and closer than what it seemed. She fought back and got to her 50 in 74 balls amidst skipper Harmanpreet Kaur failing to impress with just 5 off 10 balls.
Suffering through cramps and a dropped catch off the very first ball she faced, Ghosh scored 96 in 117 deliveries with 13 boundaries and was dismissed by Annabel Sutherland with the equation for the team 41 off 37 balls.
The lower middle order comprised of totally intent-less batting and failed to score 16 off the final over with the equation once being 22 off 18 deliveries. Annabel Sutherland was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/47.
Georgia Wareham picked up 2/39 in 7 overs with Kim Garth (1/24), Ashleigh Gardner (1/46) and Alana King (1/43) taking a wicket apiece. Allrounder Sneh Rana didn't bat due to a concussion she suffered due to a collision in the first innings and was replaced by Harleen Deol in the batting innings.
In the end, Australia took the game home by keeping their nerves with a 3-run win. Its the end of the year 2023 for both the teams with the series finale being played on Tuesday, January 2nd at the same venue.

Phoebe Litchfield: “Yeah. To be honest, it was a big challenge. If you watched it, I was really struggling. Their spinners were bowling beautifully and it was a challenging pitch. But I feel 250 was par and I can rest now.
It’s a dream to be batting with Ellyse. She is an amazing player. She takes pressure off me and it’s great to play along with her. Hopefully, some more partnerships in the future.
I think you saw Ash’s first over, she didn’t get enough spin. She came 15 overs later and got turn. It was good to bat early on and became challenging as the game progressed.
I feel it was It felt really good. It was great to grab that. Probably my mum is camera shy. Maybe she clapped, smiled.

Bit more of awareness if we could have shown would have played a big role in the end. Richa played a very good innings and Jemimah helped her in the middle. We have seen a couple of good performances and looking for the next game now.
They have a very long batting lineup and we know if you can stop the Aussie team for less than 300, its a positive sign and we knew we can chase it.

Annabel Sutherland (Player of the Match): "It was good fun, just team effort in the field. All the way we held the nerve as much as possible.
Mostly I try and hit the stumps and play as much as possible so probably the bowled stands out. Skipper had faith in me and I did the job.
I just try to read the game as much as possible. Done a fair bit of work with our bowling coach. Experienced through domestic comps back home and franchise cricket around the world too. It certainly takes bit of practice in those situations at the backend of the game, I try to back my skills and trust my instincts.
I thought it was tricky with the spin. The pitch was slower than the previous game. Alana King was unbelievable with her striking towards the end. I guess we took the momentum in our fielding innings on the back of that. Phoebe also grinded through. We needed that to get to that total."
