9:56 PM IST & 5:26 PM Local Time: England Women go 1-0 up in the two-match series with a comprehensive 67-run win in the first T20I. Bryony Smith set it up with the bat and Charis Pavely, playing her first international game, ran through the middle order of Ireland to give the visitors a huge win. Only two batters managed to get to double figures in an otherwise dismal batting show from Ireland.
Earlier in the match, Ireland won the toss and elected to field first. Bryony Smith took the attack to the Irish bowlers early on and raced to a 24-ball half-century.
Tammy Beaumont (27) and Serne Smale (25) chipped in with handy contributions. The lower middle-order faltered and only Mady Villiers got 35 off 15 to take the visitors past the 170-run mark.
Freya Sargent and Aimee Maguire picked up three wickets each, while Jane Maguire got two wickets.
In reply, Ireland lost Amy Hunter in the first over. Skipper Gaby Lewis made 2 runs off 8 balls before losing her wicket for Issy Wong.
Orla Prendergast fought a lone battle, scoring 52 off 34 but she didn't get any support from the other end. Ava Canning down the order made a run-a-ball 25. Only two Prendergast and Canning got to double figures for the hosts.
Charis Pavely picked up 3 wickets on her debut. Issy Wong got two, while Mahika Gaur, Kate Cross, and Mady Villiers all got one wicket each to give England a huge win. Stay tuned for the post-match presentation.
